I am unable to join with friends over the network; this involves both creating a game lobby, and joining preexisting games with a friend in them.
This really is a game breaker for me.
I hope I can get some sort of fix or explanation.

i have same problem too..
Can't wait for ubi to release the second half of their product to the public which includes the multiplayer aspect of the game.
oh yeah forgot about that XD
Not the issue for me.
Now, I've only tested this with one one friend and I've been doing quite A lot of searching around and have not yet found this solution anywhere else but if you're having this problem, just try this.
Go onto Memory,
Delete the current 'Title Update',
Go back onto the game and the latest title update should download,
(You need to do this most probably if you keep getting the error message for The Da Vinci Disappearance)
From now there should be no Problem (In Theory).
