Thread: best creature of each level... | Forums

    has this been done before?

    anyway, these are my views:

    1) Skelton Archer - level 1 ranged and very numerous

    2) Blood Fury - the ability to strike and return is quite useful inded and the speed is fast enough to make it useful

    3) Master Hunter - ability to shoot twice is always welcome even though they have low hit points

    4) Vampire Lord - ability to drain life, no enemy retaliation, vampires has always been the strongest of their respective level

5)Deep Hydra - it hitpoints and ability makes the Hydra the strongest creature in the level 5 region

    6) Pit Lord - ability to cast area damaging spells makes this one of the strongest creatures in the game

    7) Titans - ranged, good damage, nice abilities, it is stronger than black dragons

so far, the haven town seems the weakest because it does not have a creature that is strongest among their respective level but it is most balanced than any other towns. The inferno is actually the weakest.

    My view:

    1. Imps: Skeletons may be numerous, but only taking into account necromancy (and this is perhaps going to change), so, by definition, it is based on the map. Try play a small map with less than heroic dificult and see how many skellies you get (using that logic of yours the second level goes easily to marksman, who can reach incredible numbers easily with TRAINING). Imps, by my see, is the most powerful. As soon as they get their turn 3 out of the 6 heroes will lose most of their mana, and others save wizards will lose a fair ammount of the total as well. Buff spells are useful to everyone.

    2. Wardancers: Blood furies are powerful, but way too fragile (mean, low numbers). Their total damage isn't that much impressive. Wardancers? Now we're talking. With as much initiative as the blood furies, 9 growth (near double of the blood furies), plus wardance combo, damages gets outrageous.

    3. Master hunter: No way around it. Two arrows plus warding arrows makes it's damage simply outstanding as it keeps an enemy creature from moving. Although... iron golems and cerberus are very level good 3 as well.

    4. Grim Raiders: Vampires are good, yes, but their drain ability don't do much beyond keeping their numbers. Grim Raiders, in the other hand, are the level 7 killers. Ignoring most of the high defense of the high level they do outreageous damage. Try to make a vampire kill double or triple it's number of level 2-3 or a decent number of level 7. Archmages get the second place with it's all around versatility. (But face it, the level 4 is where rests all the good creatures, without a single one that's not worth it).

    5. Deep Hydra: It's a useful tank, what else can be said. They are the best without speak of the right skills yet. They lack in initiative, but their damage dealing possibilities and best hits in the level gives it an edge. Unicorns blindness is very good as well. The lich can only get it's best if the hero takes tactics, otherwise...

    6. Paladins: I beg to differ. Yes, pit lords cast spells, but destructive spells mostly. Seeing a general picture with all possibilities you notice that at high numbers these spells damage will be futile at best. Paladins, in the other hand, cost a small amount of gold (for level 6) have a nice initiative and jousting bonus, which increases their damage in much most of the times, add that high all around stats, great movement AND high damage, and I see here a immensily powerful level 6.

    7. Emerald Dragon: Very close to the black dragons. I chose them because in the whole picture you will see that at great numbers magic immunities (from both) isn't going to make much diference at destruction spells, but the ability of the emerald to be affected by light spell buffs give it the prize. It has a great initiative, high speed, a somewhat low damage but acid breath to balance up. Titan is good but somewhat limited, their lightning bolt is rather weak now and it's ranged capacities are somewhat limited due it's size and lack of special with it.

Good choices, guys... I think we have a very informed crowd here, and I agree with most of you on the picks...

    1. Familiar - Deals great damage for its level, and many even claim that it is better than the level 2 Horned Overseer.

    2. Blood Fury - This unit does a LOT of damage in a short time without retaliation, can cross the field and return, and has great initiative. No wonder the computer AI always seem to target these ladies.

    3. Master Hunter - Is there any competition here? Like someone mentioned before, these units are like having a powerful homing nuclear bomb. Anything it touches just dies... And the warding arrow is just cherry atop the sundae.

    4. Grim Raider - Huge hitpoints, can cross the field in one turn, superior damage, and a level 7 killer with its ignore defense charge... This unit can both deal the damage AND live through the counter-attack.

    5. Deep Hydra - This was one of the harder choices to make... The Silver Unicorn comes in 2nd with its great initiative and special. However, the Deep Hydra fits its role as a tank for the Dungeon very well, and can tie up the whole enemy army with its crazy 6-sided attack.

    6. Paladin - These bad boys on armored horses are just plain badass. They are extremely durable and are actually the fastest of all level 6's. They are one-man armies when they charge into the enemy, giving the rest of the Haven armies time to move out. Their jousting bonus adds up a lot, as well. These guys are always a welcome sight for any Haven player.

    7. Emerald Dragon - This was another hard choice to make... The Emerald Dragon would be a perfect unit if it weren't for its average level 7 hitpoints and below-average level 7 defense. These guys are very speedy, but somewhat more fragile than other level 7's. The Black Dragon comes in at a close 2nd.

Fine, I will make another one. But I won't make percentage. I will rank from 1 (worst of level) to 10 (best of level) for easier comparisson of creatures (don't be fooled by the 4th tier, it is in comparisson, in this level is hard since the power is roughly close one to another. With this comparisson you can say "oh, this one is then much weaker than that other..." or "These two have almost the same strength..."). Also I will rank accordingly to creature power and growth (adding the bonus growth), not considering skills (as they can completely outscale the creatures, if I take artificer, for instance, most units becomes intantly the better). Finally, I will not consider non-battle significant specials (as this is power scale, not usefullness):

    1) Conscript: 1
    Imp: 10
    Skeleton Archer: 6
    Assassin: 9
    Sprite: 5
    Master Gremlin: 7

    2) Marksman: 9
    Overseer: 3
    Zombie: 1
    Blood Fury: 7
    War Dancer: 10
    Obsidian Gargoyle: 6

    3) Squire: 3
    Cerberus: 7
    Spectre: 1
    Minotaur Guard: 5
    Master Hunter: 10
    Steel Golem: 6

    4) Royal Griffin: 5
    Succubi Mistress: 6
    Vampire Lord: 3
    Grim Raider: 10
    Druid Elder: 1
    Archmage: 8

    5) Inquisitor: 4
    Nightmare: 8
    Deep Hydra: 10
    Silver Unicorn: 9
    Archlich: 6
    Djinn Sultan: 1

    6) Paladin: 10
    Pit Lord: 5
    Shadow Matriach: 6
    Ancient Treant: 7
    Wright: 1
    Rakshasa Raja: 8

    7) Archangel: 6
    Archdevil: 4
    Black Dragon: 9
