I noticed when I ripped out my soundcard and smack my hand on a book to simulate gun fire I got 100fps?!!?!?

The X-FI cards cure many framrate issues with many games...not sure with this one yet...

say, man - do u have vegas already or thinking of buying it but afraid to have bad performence?

i was afraid of that but decided to impetiantly take my chances. may specs are -
    *****
    singel core AMD 3000+
    1GB RAM (2x512 kingstone)
    radeon x1900xt 512mb
    *****

since i dont have dual core and 2gb of ram i was afraid. my v-card is good but everything else is avarege.

first i put everything on low and a res of 1024x768 cuz i would not settle for less. game ran absolutly fine. so u started putting some settings on high. game still ran just fine.
finally i put most of things on high except V-sync and res crancked up to 1280x960 and the game still runs fine. it's not 40 FPS but i think i get around 25-30 most of the time .
it's very playable and bery much fun.
    im surprised for the better.

most of the in-game video settings are special effects like blur and HDR and not things like texture-res.
it's good to be able to tweak the special effects from high to low (through medium) but aside for shadows - most of them take affect rather rarely.
the unreal 3 engine is not very "tweakable" like F.E.A.R and BF2 engines, BUT even with everything on low - the game still looks great. it's an impressive engine, IMO, and if u can run it than u r in for a treat.
