Just wanted to share this article I came across. It is an interview with Dustin Browder - StafCraft II Design Director, titled "StafCraft II Building on The Beta. It is well worth the read if you're an RTS fan and gives some valuable insight into the Beta Testing and Game Development process. It definitely helped give me an appreciation for what the RUSE Dev Team must be going through.
Even though this article is a discussion on the SC2 Beta, you will notice some strikingly familiar themes that pertain to the RUSE Beta as well. Such as:
Gathering the correct data to determine whether a unit/building is overpowered.
How much focus to place on creating an environment for e-sports within the game.
What games styles to emulate from other games and what will not translate well to the game.
Whether to have different unit design and balance between single player and multiplayer.
Creating "challenge modes" that will help prepare players for online/multiplayer play.
Certainly an insightful and meaningful interview that gives us gamers a little peek into the game development process, and perhaps more understanding of what the RUSE Dev. Team must be going through right now.
