It appears there was a bird strike shortly after take-off. It also appears that there may not be any fatalities. God bless the pilot who put the bird gently into the water.

    Incredible example of airmanship.

I'd like to see the extent of damage done to the aircraft, as soon as they get it back off the water.

I enjoyed the footage of them bringing all the distraught looking folks off of the plane.. and talking about emotional trauma etc..

Then you see that black guy doing a little jig, giving thumbs up and smiling at the camera with that "yeah man, I'm alive, I know it- I'm gonna go get f*cked up!!!" kind of air about him..

I'm glad that everyone came out O.K- That pilot did a great job.

The pilot and first officer deserve medals the size of a frying pan, and from what I've heard the cabin crew deserve praise for their actions as well . I'm just glad that there were no fatalities (birds not included).

Now I taught the weeping willow how to cry,
And I showed the clouds how to cover up a clear blue sky.

Updated the title. At the time, it was not 100% sure if there were any casualties (besides the birds, of course).

Good to hear there were no casualties.

I was watching a documentary the other day about an old emergency landing/ crash, this one. The pilot managed to bring that plane down without any injuries, well not counting the few scratches some got from the emergency slides not quite reaching the floor.

Anyway apparently they’ve tried to re-enact that event many times since in simulators with various top pilots and each always killed all on board. It never ceases to amaze me how these pilots manage to perform what’s nothing less than miracles under that kind of pressure when it truly matters.

One of those rare times that a plane lands in water like in the safety demonstrations before you take off.....

Also man as if you didn't need another reason to not fly out of LaGuardia......
