When you get it perfect, you do a really good move, which will kill in one hit, if you miss the counter, and get it a bit after, maybe you only do a weak move, maybe not killing. If you miss it all together, i suspect you either get hit or have to quickly block.

this is like real life mon, go and try some sword fights or watch the on tv, not lotr, i mean sword fights in a sport, when you must time when you block and attack
