The biggest problem with playing multiplayer games with SH3 is the fact that there is no chat lobby or even a list of players logged on.
What I'm suggesting is that either UBI or a dedicated member of the game with some sort of stable server, hosts a simple IRC channel where people log in whenever they are online and playing the muliplayer portion of SH3, effectively providing the multiplayer community with a chat lobby.
This solution is simple and since the channel is public it doesn't require knowing the players before hand.
The only downsides are that you would need to run the IRC program in the background and alt-tab to access it if you've launched SH3, but from alt-tab experience the program is stable enough to handle it.
I think this would revive the almost dead multiplayer. Does noone see any value in having this sort of temporary chat lobby? The chat lobby is place where people can organise games on the fly whenevr they log in
No you are not alone in seeing the utility of a chat lobby. But I am afraid that MP is the bastid child of SHIII & much thought wasn't given to it.
So I'll throw a BUMP up!!
