Thread: How to install and run Far Cry | Forums

  1. #31
i downloaded and installed the AMD64 patches because I am running Windows 64 Professional and also have a dual core system. I'm guessing this is not enough to play multiplayer on the internet? The Ubi.com login screen never goes past the enter login/password screen.

I bought the jewel case retail version of Far Cry. It came pre-patched on version 1.1. The game works fine untill I installed patch 1.3. It wont get past the splash screen. Im using the latest catatlyst drivers and i even used old drivers to try to get it working. I tried patch 1.31 and 1.33, still nothing.I really want to play the mutiplayer aspect of Far Cry but I cant do that without having to patch it to the latest version.

"Q. I installed as above but when I try to run the game, I get the picture of the guy and girl and then nothing happens
This is a common problem and there are a few causes. It could be that you do not have a powerful enough computer to run the game. If you do not have at least a Radeon 9200 or FX5200 video card or if you have on-board video, you cannot run Far Cry.
You might need to update your video drivers.
Get Catalyst drivers from ATI here: ATI downloads
Get Forceware drivers here: Nvidia downloads
Use driver cleaner to remove all traces of old drivers before you install new ones."

Whenever I install the patches on my brand new, self-built computer, this problem keeps happening. The picture of the guy and girl show up and nothing happens. I'm running a pretty nice rig with a ATI X1600 Pro, so I'd like to know why the patches make this game unplayable (I can play version 1.0). Here are my specs:

Never mind. All I had to do was wait a few minutes for it to start. Works great now!

OK that sounds... ludicrous lol. I don't know what it is. guessing bad maintenance and not really setting up a system to work at it's optimal performance. Because if you need this (from my point of view) drool config just to play at low settings then why am I playing it at medium settings without a hitch on this system:

    AMD Athlon 1333c (10x133) Socket-A
    MSI 746F Turbo mainboard
    512Mb 333MHz DDR RAM
    and a mere Geforce3 Ti-200 64MB AGP

Graphics all set to medium in advanced/custom, bilinear filtering, 1024x768x32bit, anisotropic filtering and FAA ofcourse off with my low spec pc.

Really wondering if anyone can give me an explanation why peeps are having probs on uber-pc's and i still run most games w/o problems and often enough graphics on high with my old heap o' junk.

    puzzled

    Cheers, Kael

Download CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) and run it to remove Far Cry registry entries.
Download Windows Installer cleanup utility and run it. Remove Far Cry files from the list.
Reinstall Windows Installer 3.1 by downloading from the link and running the program.

I have done all 3 ans still I am not able to reinstall the Patches. I get the following error:

Error 1316.A A network error occurred while attemtping to read from the file c:\windows\Installer\Far Cry (Patch 1).msi

What do I need to do now?

    Please Help

I have a amd 64x2 4200 with windows vista beta and was wondering if anyone knew how to install it on this os? I've tried to the normal way but it says that i need to install setup64.exe not setup32.exe. I have the 64 bit version of vista so it dont help none. I've looked all throught the cd and cannot find anything but 32. So im completley lost. i love this game and i was really looking forward to seeing it being played with my new ati x1900 xtx 512 mb card. it runs everything great so far but this vista has finally made me mad for maybe the last time.

    I have found the solution for those people who can't reinstall the patch 1.3. I found this by trying to install the patch (which dind't work because i forgot to deinstall it) the following way: I opened the Setup file thats been put in you're temp folder when you try to install the patch (Documents&Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp). Then i found the PRODUCT CODE and the following number: {21A127AE-2DAF-40B7-8374-34C3E629521C}
Let windows do a search for that folder and delete it. Now you can reistall patch 1.3. I think it also works for other patches.
