Thread: CHAIN REACTION by MIKK Q (360) | Forums

The sequel to CORE DEFENSE, a symetrical Arena map with two mono-rails (bases) and a pulse cannon that fires up the central silo. The cannon is fired by setting off the gas tank in the floor opposite the elevators.
The pulse cannon will not fire completly every time due to the different lengths of raceways but once it is set off it will continue on its own throughout the match. I hope you enjoy !

Pulse cannon rising up silo with surounding structure. Access ladder to CORE DEFENSE at upper right is not accessable. Pulse raceway is visable at far left and bottom center (below glass)

Mono-rail car is the base for each team

The sectioned mono-rail has two doors and a central roof hatch above the diamond station accessed by jumping on the nose cone at either end.

Interior of mono-rail as lots of cover.

View up silo and pulse cannon with opening structure from CORE DEFENSE beyond.

Pathways to mono-rail platform from upper and lower central areas. A second pathway up is provided at the opposite end of the mono-rail.

One of four lower structures that provide cover. The two in the center contain ammo and the outer two contain Control Stations. Pulse cannon conduit wraping corner is visable at left.

View down on lower cover structure with pathways to mono-rail platforms beyond.

The start of the chain reaction that fires the pulse cannon. the pulses leave in opposite directions, travel around map and converge before setting off cannon.

    Small pulse moving down raceway.

View up at small pulse headed to convergence point.

Small pulse moving down last raceway towards cannon.

Fauch I helped Mikk work out the bugs on the pulse, but the idea was all him. This map plays great by the way.

Played this last night on CTD, Mikk.

(EDIT) it was mentioned that it might play better if the diamond stations were just outside the monorail cars, on the platform, rather than inside, and I think I agree. It's really difficult to grab the diamond. Other than this, It was all good. I was able to set off the chain reaction without getting my head shot off, so that's a good thing! This map is a very nice continuation of this series.

Either Skorpius of Enfadel mentioned that it would play better if the diamond stations were just outside the monorail cars, on the platform, rather than inside, and I think I agree. Why would you even mention their name other than to encite more drama, there was finally peace between us.
Well, I just spoke with Drak, a hardcore Diamonds player. He played it in a full room of 16 yesterday and he scored twice, Thraxus once and another on their team once. He said it played great and smooth. Earlier Thraxus was hosting it on dedicated and everybody liked it eventhough the chain reaction was never set off.
I don't know how you could judge the gameplay after playing for five min. before voting to end match, no one even bothered to sneak in the roof hatch. I took a look at it again and just as I thought, if I were to have the Diamonds outside the cars it would be 2 easy to grab them and drop below for a getaway, afterall it is a very small map. It looks like the haters are still haters and nothing will change that as they didn't have anything good to say but on their own maps (from what I heard from a couple people who were there to witness).
I am not going to change the map for two people (or it seems 3). I imagine if I would have placed them outside they should have been inside. Some people will not give good reviews unless they have had some input into the map. This was discovered by a few people observing how certain people voted and/or spoke about maps that incorporated feedback on some maps and didn't on others.
I have a 5 year professional degree in design and have been designing and building FPS levels Since DOOM on the PC. I will just keep doing what I have been and those two can keep voting to end the match and giving them a low score.
Ya, I looked this morning and it dropped to a 3 star, Really, a 3 star ! WTF Obviously some people have no integrity.
