Thread: Warrior Within: Location of all artwork chests | Forums

    I present the following information for those who wonder where the artwork chests are located in Warrior Within. Although the following is not a "walkthrough", I present the information in the order in which I usually progress through the game.

    From the "Main Menu", choose <Extra Features> and then <Artwork Gallery> in order to see which artwork you have found during the progress of the game.

    The artwork gallery contains 20 character pictures, 30 environment pictures, and 15 illustrations.
    Artwork chests contain the character and environment artwork.
    To see all of the artwork in the illustration gallery, collect all nine (9) life upgrades and the Water Sword in the Hourglass Room, win the game, save the game, return to the main menu, and then check the illustrations in the artwork gallery.

    I identify each artwork according to its position in a grid with rows "A" through "D" for character artwork and rows "A" through "F" for environment artwork, and columns 1 through 5 from left to right.

    I label chests that contain character artwork as "Char-grid_position".
    I label chests that contain environment artwork as "Env-grid_position".

    Within the parentheses () I provide a short description of the artwork.

    Some chests are easy to find. Other artwork chests are very cleverly hidden.

    *Fortress 1 - Wreckage. The Beach (Present).
    On the beach to the left of the stairs is a chest.
    Env-A1 (Ship)

    *Fortress 2 - The Beach (Present).
    After climbing columns, a chest is on the walkway to the right.
    Char-A1 (Crow)

    *Fortress 3 - First steps in the past. Fortress Entrance (Past).
    After you fight sand creatures and climb the left column, a chest is on the second floor walkway. You soon wall run over a wall button, drop down a curtain, and leave the room.
    Env-A3 (rubble stairs)

    *Fortress 4 - Chasing the Girl in Black. Southern Passage (Past).
    Shahdee leaves a large room and a gate closes behind her.
    Go to the far left end of the central walkway.
    Wall run to a platform on the left side of the closed exit door (below the tapestry) and go to the center (end) of that walkway.
    Env-B4 (Sacrificial Altar)

    *Fortress 5 - Chasing the Girl in Black. Southern Passage (Past).
    Shahdee leaves a large room and a gate closes behind her. After jumping up onto the hanging switch that opens the gate exit, a chest is on the last balcony before descending down the tapestry.
    Env-B5 (Central Hall turnstile lever)

    *Fortress 6 - Sacrificial Altar/Southern Passage (Past).
    After defeating Shahdee and saving Kaileena, ascend the stairs to the altar.
    To the right of the altar is a chest.
    Char-D2 (Shahdee)

    *Fortress 7 - A Helping Hand. Fortress Entrance (Past).
    Leave the room after a black mossy creature throws an axe at you.
    Climb left, wall run right, and go up a long staircase. A chest is behind some barrels to the far left.
    Env-A4 (broken columns near pool)

    *Central Hall 1 - A Helping Hand Central Hall (Past).
    A chest is in the Hourglass Chamber to the left of the staircase.
    Env-B2 (Central Hall rocks to climb to the Garden Tower)

    *Central Hall 2 - The Towers Central Hall Past.
    Jump and climb up the rocks and jump across onto a platform in front of a doorway to the Garden Tower. Climb some rocks on the left to get to a chest.
    Env-B1 (Fortress Entrance)

    *Central Hall 3 - Central Hall (Past).
    On your way to the water maiden garden, there is a chest in the first pit over which
    the prince runs on a timed retractable metal floor.
    Char-D1 (Old man)

    There are more Central Hall chests listed later in this document.

    *Garden 1 - The Water Maiden Garden Hall (Past).
    On the ground in the left of three garden sections, to the left of the pool of water is a chest.
    Env-C2 (garden sunlight from left with large trees grown into the right wall)

    *Garden 2 - The Water Maiden Garden Hall (Past).
    In the Water Maiden Garden, climb two ladders, jump across the gap,
    wall run, rope run and jump across. A chest is on the upper dead end platform.
    Env-C3 (Garden tree)

    *Garden 3 - The Water Maiden Garden Hall (Past).
    After rotating a turnstile lever to close a door to the Water Maiden Garden and open a door to a second garden, a chest is behind a pillar that has a weight-activated switch.
    Env-C4 (Garden bushes)

    *Garden 4 - Water and Gardens. Garden (Past).
    After rotating a turnstile lever to close a door to the Water Maiden Garden and open a door to a second garden, go to the far right corner of the courtyard. A chest is in an alcove below.
    Char-A3 (bloodied Silhouette)

    *Garden 5 - Water and Gardens Garden Waterworks (Present).
    After retracting landings, and "right place but the wrong time", and noticing a CrowMaster across the trees from you, go left from tree to tree to a railing, down to a landing, and into a room. A chest is on an upper platform in an alcove.
    Char-C1 (three-toed wolf)

    *Garden 6 - Water and Gardens. Garden Waterworks. (Past).
    From the "Water Maiden Garden Hall third floor connecting walkway, having swung from bar to bar you arrive at the Garden Waterworks with tall water spouts that move when you rotate turnstile levers. A chest is in the far right corner as you enter the courtyard.
    Env-D1 (rope bridge and torches)

    *Garden 7 - Water and Gardens. Garden Waterworks. (Past)
    A chest is at the top of the building on a platform outside of the room that has the fourth turnstile lever that activates the tower.
    Char-B1 (nearly invisible sand creature with a sword)

    *Garden 8 - Water and Gardens. Garden Hall. (Past)
    You return to the Water Maiden Garden Hall third floor connecting walkway from the leftmost of three sections. Go to the rightmost section. Wall run to a platform with a bandit. A chest is on the dead end platform past the wall button.
    Char-A5 (CrowMaster)

    *Central Hall 4 - Central Hall (Past).
    Rotate the turnstile lever in the Central Hall to the floor icon of a cog gear. Once you are at the top of the rock formation, jump diagonally to more rocks. A chest is at the top.
    Env-A5 (time warp portal near crags viewed from a balcony)

    *Mechanical 1 - Clockworks and Gears. Mechanical Tower. (Past).
    After descending ledges, defeating the brute on the outdoor bridge opens a door to the tower. A chest is to the right of a few stairs to a permanently closed door.
    Env-D3 (ruined building in the present with many branches growing)

    *Mechanical 2 - Clockworks and Gears. Mechanical Pit. (Past).
    You enter the tower through the bottom of a very large gear.
    After raising the central structure's elevation, jump to an upper "bay window"-like shack.
    A chest is in the left corner of the floor with a tall ladder to the right.
    Env-D4 (building in the present with red flags and red tapestry)

    *Mechanical 3 - Clockworks and Gears. Mechanical Pit. (Past).
    After jumping through the top portion of a very large gear, before entering the upper doorway, continue to shimmy along the ledge to a platform on the left.
    A chest is in the far left corner of that platform.
    Char-B4 (brute with tattoo)

    *Mechanical 4 - Clockworks and Gears. Mechanical Pit. (Past).
    You slow time to climb a box to a rope and then wall run to a walkway.
    A bridge forks to the left (and to the right to a large spoked wheel). Go left.
    At the next "T" intersection go right, avoid various traps in the hallway, walk on a floor button to enter a dead end room, climb a ladder, and jump onto a gear.
    A chest is on the gear.
    Env-D5 (all of the towers with red pennants)

    *Mechanical 5 - Clockworks and Gears. Mechanical Pit. (Past).
    You wall run through two large spoked wheels, rotate a turnstile lever, ride an elevator platform, and bounce up to the brute's room with a fireplace or to a walkway. Go on that wooden walkway to its end past an exploding beast. A chest is past the hanging lever.
    Env-E1 (Throne Room of the Empress of Time)

    *Mechanical 6 - Clockworks and Gears. Mechanical Pit. (Past).
    There is a room with a large brute and a fireplace. Go to the far left end of the room and turn right to another hallway. A chest is on your right.
    Char-B2 (sand bandit in red garb)

    *Mechanical 7 - Clockworks and Gears. Activation Room. (Past).
    You are in a large room where a giant brute throws exploding beasts at you. In the hallway that connects with the front large walkway, on the left of the hallway you wall run up to a landing. A chest is against its right wall.
    Env-E2 (climbable ledges on the sarcophagus structure in the catacombs)

    *Mechanical 8 - Clockworks and Gears. Activation Room. (Past).
    As you travel around the Activation Room, the first side room with a large stone that breaks into two sections (as if it was demagnetized) has a breakable wall. Fight near that wall so that the brute tosses an exploding beast at you. The beast will break that wall. A chest is in the side alcove where the wall used to be.
    Env-E3 (prison cell, gap in floor, barrels on the other side)

    *Mechanical 9 - Clockworks and Gears. Activation Room. (Past).
    After rotating the third lever, you wall run twice to a platform and enter an opening in the wall. On the inside on the platform is a chest.
    Char-B3 (spiked exploding beast having four talons on each claw)

    *Throne Room - Empress, Hourglass Room (Past).
    In the throne room fighting the Empress, one chest is in the front left corner on the left of a stone griffin.
    Env-B3 (room with supports consisting of pairs of columns on both sides of the aisle)

    Another chest is on the left side of the stone griffin which is nearest to the right side of the throne towards the rear of the room.

    *Catacombs 1. Catacombs (Present).
    After killing the Empress and escaping the Dahaka from the beach, there is a "tomb room" with a sarcophagus in the center and stairs with lion heads on each side in the front of the room. A chest is in the rear of the room against the wall.
    Env-E4 (room with ten columns above the brute's room where you found the Scorpion Sword)

    *Catacombs 2. You cannot change your fate. Catacombs (Present).
    After the Dahaka chases you three times through the catacombs, a chest is just past a water fountain.
    Char-D5 (the Dahaka)

    *Prison 1 - A throne and a mask. Prison (Past).
    After getting the Scorpion Sword, you eventually break a door and rotate a turnstile lever to open three doors: one with zombie sand creatures, one with a crate, and one with a chest. A chest is in the rear of an alcove.
    Env-E5 (prison room showing three closed doors viewed from the bottom of some stairs)

    *Prison 2 - A throne and a mask. Prison (Past).
    There is a prison room with a turnstile lever that opens some doors and a floor button that activates floor spikes that might kill a sand creature or two. Wall run onto a wall button to open an exit door. In the next prison room is a chest in an alcove on the right.
    Env-F1 (cavern with stairs that lead to a building. Hand rails are animal figurines.)

    *Prison 3 - A throne and a mask. Prison (Past).
    After defeating a large iron brute (no sand creature bandits and no exploding beasts) in the Scorpion Sword room, climb a ladder to the top. A chest is in the room against the wall past the wall button.
    Char-C4 (brute with metal glove)

    *Library 1 - A throne and a mask. Library (Past).
    After dropping off of a weight-activated switch that temporarily opens a door to a library, rotating a turnstile lever, going through the closing door, and climbing a ladder, you fight some ninja sand creatures. A chest is on that library floor to your left.
    Env-F2 (Mystic Cave with stalactites)


    *Library 2 - A throne and a mask. Library (Past).
    After pulling out two bookcases, bouncing, climbing, etc. you walk on some upper wooden beams and drop down onto a large flat rock. A chest is on the ground near the wall.
    Char-C2 (zombie bandit)


    *Library 3 - A throne and a mask. Library (Past).
    After walking on the top of large octagonal structures, you walk on some beams and jump across to another hallway in an "L" shape. As you walk along the beams, look down in the hallway below you. There is a movable crate and a chest on the ground to the left.
    Char-C3 (ninja fighter with sword in left hand and right hand poised up)

    *Fortress 7 - A throne and a mask. Southern Passage (Past).
    Rotate the Central Hall turnstile lever towards the Fortress Entrance, climb the rock formation, and proceed through the upper red curtain.
    Proceed to a large room where Shahdee ran away from the prince closing a gate behind her. There are many corner balconies and some beams that connect some of the balconies. Ascend up to the balcony just before jumping over to the hanging lever. There is a crate in a side room behind a breakable wall. Break the metal bars with your sword. A chest is in the side room.
    Char-A4 (female ninja warrior with three-pointed weapon)

    *Fortress 8 - A throne and a mask. Sacrificial Altar (Past).
    Proceed out the rear of the Southern Passage room, down a curtain, across a spike pit, to the Sacrificial Altar room. A chest is to the right of the entrance doorway before the broken staircase.
    Env-C1 (closed garden door)

    There is one more Fortress chest listed later in this document.


    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    *Garden 9 - Water and Gardens. Garden Hall. (Past)
    Perform this task before the game closes some doors that make it impossible to return to that hall. Once you have a sword that can break walls, return to the "Water and Gardens Garden Hall" by the second floor door on the right. Go to the courtyard with a weight-activated switch to climb up to the lever that first started some water flowing. From the waterway, jump up to a handhold, shimmy around to the other side, drop down, and walk across a beam to a breakable wall. A chest is behind the breakable wall.
    Env-C5 (garden present featuring a tall tree and a balcony)

    *Sacred Caves - A Second Chance. Sacred Caves (Past).
    As the SandWraith, proceed past many traps to a drinking fountain. A chest is near the water fountain just before you fight the Griffin.
    Char-C5 (Griffin)

    *Garden 10 - A Second Chance. Garden Waterworks (Past).
    After defeating the large winged Griffin as the SandWraith and solving the stationery spiky log puzzle in the Sacred Caves, walk to an outdoor balcony and proceed to the aqueduct (a structure that conveys a quantity of flowing water.) A chest is on the aqueduct.
    Env-D2 (bridge with waterwheel on the left)

    *Cliff as SandWraith 1 - The Path of the SandWraith. Cliff (Past).
    After wall running to a rope, you descend down a curtain, jump over to a tree limb, swing to a bar, swing to a wall and bounce from wall to wall up to a platform. A chest is at the far left end near the wall.
    Env-A2 (beach shipwreck)

    *Cliff as SandWraith 2 - The Path of the SandWraith. Cliff (Past).
    Jump from mast to mast, run across several crumbling walkways, slash a creature along a wall, and land on a large crumbling ledge. A breakable wall is in front of you. A chest is on the far left side of the ledge.

    *Fortress 9 - Mirrored Fates. Fortress Entrance (Past).
    After the cliff, maneuver past several buzzsaw blade traps. The game plays a cinematic scene where you throw an axe. Backtrack into the hallway shown in the cinematic scene and turn right. A chest is on the floor on your right.
    Char-A2 (animal skull masked warrior from Shahdee's ship)

    *Foundry 1 - Mirrored Fates. Fortress Entrance (Past).
    As you enter the foundry (iron works), that is the "front" of the room.
    In the foundry are two chests on the ground and one on the second floor.
    A chest is in the first ground alcove on the far left side.
    Env-F3 (Mystic cave closed exit gate and walkway partially visible)

    *Foundry 2 - Mirrored Fates. Fortress Entrance (Past).
    A chest is on the right side near the middle of the floor next to a pillar.
    Char-B5 (1 of 2 who fought with Empress in Throne Room. She wears a seven pointed crown)

    *Foundry 3 - Mirrored Fates. Fortress Entrance (Past).
    A chest is on the second floor near the front of the foundry behind some machinery. Jump to a column and then across to another second floor platform.
    Env-F4 (view from a cave to a tower with wooden walkways, masts, and other wooden structures)

    *Mystic Caves - Mirrored Fates. Mystic Caves (Past).
    In a misty and foggy cave, go past one room, up some short stairs, down a corridor, then wall run right across a chasm. A chest is on a ledge. That is before the cave with a closed door, stalactites, and many wolves.

    Only someone familiar with the programming of the game would know. I am only a game player such as yourself.
    I found all displayable icons at both Easy and Normal settings to be identical. But programmers can create "easter eggs" for anything they choose.

    So to unlock all the artwork all you need to do is get all 9 life upgrades, the water sword, beat the game and save? I've done that and I'm still missing a few images. I smashed as many chests that I came across.

    You have to find each and every artwork chest in the locations mentioned in order to see the artwork inside for Characters and for Environment.
