If I read it right you're getting confused over the idea of having a virtual computer which runs on the physical comptuer. If I'm wrong then this post will just annoy you, anyway...
Remember that you are now running two seperate computers.
One is a physical computer which you can bash with your hand (if the feeling takes you).
The other is the virtual PC (S4-UBL).
If you want to think of it like:
The physical PC is in your bedroom.
The virtual PC is in your sitting room.
Whatever you have installed on the bedroom PC isn't on the sitting room PC and vice-versa.
Hence settlers IV may be on the physical PC, but it isn't on the Virtual PC until you install it as per the instructions.

You can play multiplayer, it's just the likes of megg and TA and Wiggy
will have to have hamachi installed as well for you to play an over-the-internet LAN game is all.
The reason the patch was there is because the virtual PC is a clone of how I set it up, and since thats the only patch that works with S4 under Linux for whatever reason I included it in the virtual pc.
I wonder if the patch isn't needed if you have the Gold or Trojans add on, I only have the original S4 these days (mission cd is too scratched to work).
I think I got a bit confused, as well - when you said you didn't understand the autorun.exe bit I thought you hadn't installed the game but maybe you actually have.
Easy way to find out, open the icon on the right of the eclipse ALSA symbol in the top taskbar on the S4-UBL desktop (it will ask for the password) and then type:
cd /home/s4/.wine/drive_c
ls
(each followed by enter) and if ls displays a folder called BlueByte then type:
cd Blue*/T*/Exe
wine s4.exe
if it doesn't have the BlueByte directory, then the game isn't there yet.
Edit: if you want we could take it to instant chat I'm in bbgc atm.

Hmmm, been looking for this since a few days now.
I did want to try this, but the problem.
The 7-zip extractor doesn't recognise the file as an archive.
Any thoughts?
Also, is it really necessary to use this virtual box thing? idk about its difficulty but at startup seems kinda complex.
I've seen other fixes that would be an executable, updating your drivers. But unfortunatly my hardware wouldn't be compatible.
I just want to play S4, it's in my opinion still the best in it's series.

I'd say your download is corrupt and that's why 7z cant open it as an archive.
And the virtual machine is very easy to setup, just ask pennyuk how well she got on with it

K so it maybe is corrupted.
Where can i get another patch that isn't corrupted
?
Who made it?

from the same place as you got the file already, just hope that this time your download doesn't corrupt on you

Right i got the S4-UBL now, logged in thats fne.
Done settings as desired.
But my Virtual Machine doesn't detect my DVD drive.
What could i be doing wrong?

As I recall it only shows up when you put a cd in, so was this before or after you put the S4 cd in?
