I don't think the online play for Chessmaster 9000 works anymore.

Yes; it's official. Online Play is no longer available with Chessmster 9000.

I'm really surprised by this. Ubisoft doesn't seem to mind still selling the program (e.g., it's still available at Best Buy and bestbuy.com) but they don't support online play anymore? If anyone has a solution to this please post it - I find it almost impossible that this would be the case, though that may just be wishful thinking. I understand that newer versions are out, but when companies withdraw support they're typically not still trying to rake money in from sales of the product they're not supporting!

As I previously stated, online play is no longer supported for CM 9000. That's all there is to it.
BestBuy's price for CM 9000 is $9.99; much less than it's original price of $39.99. In other words, they're trying to get rid of excess inventory... Ubisoft has nothing to do with it.

Thanks for the reiteration - I appreciate it - but I'm still disappointed by this. I have plenty of games that are of the same vintage (or older) as Chessmaster 9000 that are still supported for online play. I don't think I want to find out the reason for them stopping support - I can't imagine Chessmaster requires the same sort of server hardware that something like an RTS does so I don't expect that it's the cost of the 'server farms' necessary to run the (10's or 100's? of) games of Chessmaster 9000.
I'll have to see if my Fritz still works for online play so I can play my brother. Bummer.
Again, thanks for the response (that's a serious thank you, not a sarcastic one!)

I have purchased the 10th edition on a softwarehouse in Brazil, city of Passo Fundo, county of Rio Grande do Sul. By the way, it´s a legal copy ok? I have the serial number and the fiscal ticket/cupom.
I can´t log in Ubi.com and the program says "Could not log to the router! The client is incompatible with the server: (ERR:50)"
I tried to install the US patches and didn´t work on my computer. After a contact with the deliverer in the Brazil (Eletronic Arts Ltda.) the support said to me that the fail is caused by viruses and spywares. I have antivirus and antispywares installed and updated in my computer. I´m wondering if could be a better idea return the game to the softwarehouse and ask for compensation (take my money back). Unfortunately I had plans to play online. The game without online matches isn't attractive for me. I did my best searching for patches, contacting the support and trying to solve the problem. I´m tired.

By the way, I tried to install four times. I uninstall the program by windows features "control panel - add/remove programs". After this I remove the folder that the game was installed (C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster10th.....). Then, I restarted the windows and reinstalled the game and tried to install the US patches (like the support said to me) and was impossible to install the patches (Anim8.dll - unknown version). Four times.
I tried to install the game in another folder too, but the same problem happened.
My computer´s profile:
Notebook Toshiba Satellite M55-S325
Intel Pentium M Processor 1.73GHz
504 MB RAM
Operational System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Video: Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family
LAN Adapter: Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller
Wireless Adapter: Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection

If you're getting the error "Anim8.dll - Unknown version" then you're installing the wrong patches. Try installing the UK patches.
See the Chessmaster 10th Edition FAQ for more details.
