Thread: IL2 Screen Capture | Forums

  1. #1
I'll try to make this short, I have a XFX 9600GT 512mb a LG 20.5 widescreen monitor 500gb hd quad core 6600 with 4gig ram and Vista 32/sp1 installed SB extreme Gamers. When I install this card about 6 months ago I used the drivers that came with it and updated to 178.24 and was not having any problems doing screen captures in OpenGL. Around the first of the year I updated my drivers to the 180.xx and still no problems, later I updated to 182.20 and now I'm unable to do a screen capture with the game in OpenGL mode, I can do the capture in DirectX but the only thing I get in OpenGL mode is either the splash screen or a solid black box where the screen should be. I have tried all the graphic programs to include Paint and still no, same results in OpenGL. I reverted back to 180.xx, 178.24 and back again to the later 182.06 but the problem remains. The only thing I haven't tried is to uninstall and go back to the drivers that came with the card. I have so far deleted drivers, uninstalled drivers reinstalled using both windows and drive sweep but the results remain the same, no screen capture in IL2 when in OpenGL mode. Would really appreciate any help on this matter. I believe the problem is relate somehow to OpenGL. There are others with whom I fly IL2 with who also updated drivers and are experincing the same problems. TC

For what its worth, I have the same problem with the latest drivers and I am using 2-8800GTs. But, I have found that the Fraps screenshot still works quite well. You may want to look at getting Fraps. It saves the screenshots as JPGs instead of putting them on the clipboard. It can also be used to record movies directly from the game as well as give you a nice frame rate display/recorder.

I downloaded the Fraps program but I would like to know what exactly those drivers did/changed to cause this problem. To many people are having problems with these new drivers and even if you uninstall and revert back to a previous working version the problem doesn't go away, it's like the driver changed something in your program or the Operating System that can't be change back. Thanks for you reply and I hope some one find a solution real quick. TC

When you reverted, did you also use a driver cleaner before reinstalling the old drivers? For some reason, just uninstalling doesn't seem to get it.

    Process for me is:

    - Uninstall current drivers

    - Reboot (safe mode) or (640x480 mode)--Run a driver clearer

    - Reboot and reinstall drivers.

I pretty much follow the procedures you did except I installed the drivers in safe mode. What I believe is that when we updated to the new drivers, somehow something to do with how OpenGL is handle in Vista/IL2 and the drivers was changed, that's the only thing it could be because everything was working find before the update of drivers, or maybe there's a setting in the Nvidia Control Panel that was changed or disabled that we are over looking. But what ever it is it's got to do with OpenGL in IL2 because none of my other games (Halflife Series) that use OpenGl has this problem. TC

I suspect this has to do with one of two things in recent nvidia drivers, it either has to do with the OpenGL 3.0 that gets installed (if this is the case then if you can find the opengl.dll from the old drivers and place them in your game folder it might be fixed) or it has to do with the multi-screen SLI support. The reason I suspect the latter is that some people with milti-monitor setups will actually get a screencap of the black second screen instead of the primary screen with the game running. If that is the case then you may be able to change some setting or other related to multi-monitor in the nvidia control panel. This is all theory, of course.

I can't seem to make any changes in my Nvidia Control Panel, every change I make reverts back. How do I get the control panel to accept my changes? Do I need to do this in safe mode of is there something I need to uncheck somewhere?

I don't have a dusl setup although I do have a 9600GT 512mb, wonder if moving the monitor connection to the other DVI hookup would do it? TC

Do you run Vista crlyles? This sounds like either an User Account Control or an Access List (file ownership) problem.
If you run Vista turn off UAC. If you run Vista or XP and your drive is NTFS formatted look into File Ownership. check this article on M4T.

    Urufu_Shinjiro,

I'm running with dual monitor SLI. The second monitor screen is not black while in game IL-2). In fact it is still actively being updated by Windows. You can't just mouse to it--still have to ALT+Tab, etc. What's nice is you can watch things like performance monitors, Teamspeak, etc. while in game.
