Running URU on my new machine. | Forums

Back in April I had real problems trying to run URU on my old machine. ( Best AGP graphics for URU ?)
Heimdall was incredibly helpful and patient ( Thanks a million !) but I had to give up in the end. ;-(

Now I have bought a better machine which runs Windows 7 in 64 bit. Its old, but a clean machine just loaded with Win 7 and graphics / sound drivers and all up to date. My question is: what is the easiest way to run URU on this system ?
I still have my Windows XP setup disk with SP3, would it be simplest to install on this as dual boot - or to run URU in Windows 7 (64 bit) environment ? Thank you.

In general,
1. Install Uru to your C: drive.
-- a. Be certain that Uru saves its game progress files to your C: drive.
2. Start Uru from a fresh boot.
-- a. Reboot, log into Windows, and close all open applications.
-- b. Disable all anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up programs running in the background.
----- 1. Do NOT forget to re-enable your anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up programs after finished playing Uru.
-- c. If you have only a software firewall, do NOT disable it.
-- d. Do NOT run any other programs before starting Uru.
3. Never boot up with a CD or DVD in the disc drive.
4. If the Uru disc autostarts when inserted into the drive, cancel back to the Desktop.
5. Always start Uru with the Desktop shortcut/start icon, NOT from the CD menu.

Suggestions:

1. Have you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor on your new machine, to be certain that it's completely capable of running Win 7 without problems? If not, do so.

2. If the Upgrade Advisor doesn't find anything, run the Program Compatibility troubleshooter and use it to install Uru. See
Make older programs run in this version of Windows for details, in particular, "If you cannot install a program, insert the installation disc ...."
-- a. If you've already tried installing Uru, uninstall the game using Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs utility.
----- 1. See Uninstall or change a program and Uninstalling programs: frequently asked questions for details.
----- 2. If you can't find the Add or Remove Programs utility, see Turn Windows features on or off.
