Simply; will the hex grid be implemented on the battle field?

Well hex grid has been on since King's Bounty till Heroes 4, so most probably will it appear again in Heroes 5. Unless they come up with a complete fresh new idea of how the battle should be played, viewed and units move around.

Cant say I have ever used it or ever will use it. But I'm sure you're not the only one who'll be wanting it. For some reason it just annoys me to see that on the battlefield.

I think what he meant was will there be hex shape battlefield. But I could be wrong. Besides, I don't use hex grid to see where my units move.

Yes, you are wrong. I meant the only thing that's called 'hex grid' in Heroes 3. It helps you to know exactly where you want to put your creatures, and if they are reachable by your opponents.

For me it's not so much as the hex grid but my movement shadow or movement allowence is important.

I think the battles are going to be more dynamic, without any hex-grid and will take place on the adventure map, which is gonna be large enough, depending on the scenario.
Maybe the creatures will be put alost face to face, without much need of moving around the battlefield, avoiding the enemy, but in the archers' case it's gonna be difficult.

A 'hex' grid, judging by its name, is a grid comprised of 6 - sided shapes. If my memory serves me correctly, this type of grid was in Heroes 1 - 3, but it was changed for Heroes IV.

If they do choose to omit any form of a grid for Heroes V, I think it would be to herald a move away from the classic Heroes - Chess correlation and into a new style that would suit modern games and a 3D field.
That isn't to say that a 3D field can't have a grid. Quite the opposite. I think a grid would be viable if the battle-mechanics were like Heroes I - IV, i.e. not pin-point accuracy when positioning creatures.

While without a grid there wouldn't be as much structure to the battle, it would allow for more freedom and possibly more creative options to be explored.

I also second the statement of Salventus, I found myself using the movement shadow much more than the grid in Heroes IV, simply because the grid was too small to make a difference.

It will be interesting to see whether the developers implement a grid system...
