I finally did some playing online over the weekend and things did not go very well. I thought I had a pretty good grasp on the game but after 5 straight losses, major losses, I realized that I must be doing something wrong. The one thing that I simply cannot figure is how people can build up so damn fast. I mean by the time I can get to a place where I am even remotely thinking of moving on their base they are all over me with 2 to 3 times the units that I have. So I am just curious, is there a particular strategy for building really fast that I have just not discovered yet???

I usually take 2 resource dumps that are close to me right of the bat. Through up Camouflage to hide my base and build barracks and anti-tank facility to get my defense out there. Then I start in on researching on tanks, and planes, as well as arty for a nice mixed, well balanced force. But I never make it that far. Please help me. What am I doing wrong???

Don't lose heart - every game is like this: you play offline, can whoop the CPU with no problem, go online and get your *** handed to you over and over again. This is especially worse when you get online after the game has been out a while. The best way I find is to get online as early as possible so that you can ride the learning curve with everyone else.

But stick with it - you will make ground sooner or later

From what you said, your problem appears to be one of defensiveness. The online game is won with aggression. Early aggression. Also, your predefined start is long - you should be responding or dictating to your enemy long before then.

Two depots is good, then get some recon out and see what your opponent is up to. If they are expanding out, think about harassing that expansion. If they are not expanding, think about locking them in and expanding yourself.

There is no point spending money on research you may not need. And also don't think too much in terms of massed armies. This game can be won with just one or two units of the right kind in the right place at the right time.

You just need to cost him more than it cost you. For example, if you use a $5 infantry unit to destroy $30 worth of supply trucks, that's a local win. But don't use that infantry to capture a supply depot that he can instantly capture back - the net effect is virtually nothing.

And don't do what a lot of new players seem to do: either spam one particular unit thinking it will overwhelm them, or build ridiculous defences expecting them to throw units against them. Keep a balanced force of anti-tank, anti-air and anti-infantry, plus something long(ish) range to cope with static defences. And of course recon, recon, recon...

    Good luck

Judging from what I'm reading your problem is that you focus on expensive researches, not building units to go forward. You don't need to do every research, especially on expensive tanks, I learned this from playing Germany at first, I focused on building King Tigers, but then I found out that alone they suck, by now I just build Panthers as they're good on their own, tanks are usually late game for me anyway now. I find balancing researches and building units is the key, I build 2 depots + 2-3 buildings early game (3rd if I have the resources to afford a 3rd without damaging economy). They're usually barracks, AT base and AA base or airfield (air power early game is really useful when no one has any effective counters). This gives me the units that can counter everything I might encounter, tanks infantry recon. Do the researches that make the biggest impact, for example the Germans have a 25$ upgrade for their infantry and a 25$ upgrade for the AT guns, the AT gun has 2 star AT power and with the upgrade 4 star while infantry get 1 to each category, but the standard unit is good at what it does so the AT gun gets the upgrade.

you have a good tactic in my opinion but you need more Supply depots try to get 3-4 at start and Pair ADV AT(2-3), Hvy inf(3-4), and recon(2) at the choke points then work on the heavy stuff and renforce the Main paths the enemy will take with the hvy stuff, build a big force of 15-25 units mixing armored AA,and hvy/super hvy tanks or AA with ADV TD's and assult guns, do that and you'll get wat i call the "Rolling Fortress".

    Then PUSH.

    Everything has a Counter(ecept Japan)

In my opinion, building all 3 bases is ******ed. You should only build all 3 when you need all 3. I would build an AT base as a response to a heavy stack of armour rolling that needs stopping urgently if there are no other options. Personally, I always build a barracks.. 2 reasons.. infantry kicks *** and is very cost effective if used right and recon. Armour base, well, it's self explanatory. For offense and holding chokepoints mainly. AA/Arty for when it gets static and you need to have some aggression and depot harassment from afar, or if the enemy goes air. However, an airfield .. well, it could also be built in reaction to air.

RUSE is about reacting in the early stages to snuff out the later stages of a threat. Like taking the oxygen away from a flame. If you don't react correctly, or your opponent counter-reacts.. then you need to and so on and so forth.

This is what i love about RUSE
    PC.. 4v4.. what a spamfest.

Nope. I find building all 3 is good, barracks allows you to send infantry to cities and ambushes and recon, arty base gets you AA guns and AT base makes sure tanks don't get a upper hand. Basically every threat the opponent can pull at the beginning of the game is negated right off the bat with counters, I've never played a game where i thought that the AA guns I sent weren't worth it especially when i forget to send more and he pops up with air units.

You would be right if in RUSE you could watch your enemy and everything he does, but you can't since most use camo netting and so you can't see what buildings they have. If the enemy catches you off guard you're prepared anyway.
