    Another H2H idea!

Was just playing some Last Stand (strange I know) and had an interesting idea on how to diversify H2H.

So we all know Athletics and interaction need their own ****ons, right?
    Well they do...

Anyway, see what you make of this.
Use the interact ****on for grabs/disarms (in addition to interacting, duh) and use the H2H ****on for KO/Kill.
The idea here is obviously to 'tap' the ****on for one and 'hold' the ****on for the other. Just like SCC or Deus Ex.

This kind of system would really start to shine when you mix it up, like disarm + KO (say 'Y' + 'B' in quick succession, be like a combo from a brawler) This could be really fast and get you like rewards (Gears of War anyone?) or heck, maybe that's how you earn an execute token. You get 'adrenaline' points 'cause your agent feels all pumped up about owning someone so radically.
Whereas a standard takedown (no disarm) is slower.. but perhaps silent, you could mix it that way too.

A little something to enforce the 'stealth' aspect also.
Remember in the old days when you could only grab from behind? Well holding the apt ****on to grab a dude from the front will require and automatically perform a disarm. Takes longer and is not silent. Grabbing a dude from behind is the 'stealthy' way... faster too.
Gives you the freedom to grab a hostage when you need one, but also makes you want to use stealth if you still have a choice.

Super elite enemies, like other agents and such mightn't be able to be disarmed (that rules out grabbing from the front too) so you have to either take them down the long (but admittedly simpler way) or try something more devious like sneaking up behind them.

Like I said, I was playing Last Stand when I thought of that, so I was in a "how-to-make-takedowns-more-interesting" kind of mood.

    EDIT: this **** **** is really ******* bad. --__--

I like it. Seems conservative on ****ons yet effective. They should also have like 5x the takedown animations because im greedy

Forgot all about the game, finally completed it about a year back, and decided to play it a bit today.

My thoughts: I absolutely hate the game still, it has next to none of the qualities I liked in the first 4, and now I'm sure I won't miss it if I sell it. Deniable Ops and P.E.C are the only things I would keep, but even they would be completely different. Oh, and the menus are quite cool.

So my suggestion: Take the stealth-focused pseudo-realistic gameplay and feel (spy thriller > "Bourne" action blockbuster flick) of the originals and tweak it a bit smoother to allow better gunplay, if necessary. M&E sucks, projected text sucks, controls suck, black&white screen sucks, many animations are broken (such as throwing a grenade at the wall and my feet when my crosshair clearly is above it), stealth sucks, the rushyrushy levels with "smooth cutscene loading" and AI suck. Some people have issues not being able to pick up bodies and as awful it is I feel it wouldn't fix anything. Playing Conviction still feels completely awful and without exaggeration it's in worst games of this gen, right down there with Dragon Age 2 and Perfect Dark Zero.

Now the story is another matter. On one hand I'm glad things got concluded enough for letting the series move on, but on the other hand Coste's narrative system was hideous (hated it in Dragon Age 2 too) and I'm left guessing what will happen. I'm also conflicted whether I want Sam Fisher himself to return, the way he got younger and more athletic as well as how emo he got made me ask myself whether I want to see him again. Maybe it's better to kill him off or retire him completely at the start of SC6 and give us a new character.

It's sad SC1-4 all are in my top 10 of Xbox1, but Conviction is way down on the other end at the bottom. I would have no hope for the series, but I got the impression Beland with his panthers isn't in charge any more (Thank god if it's true!) and Jade Raymond is (mmm... oh and Assassin's Creed and Beyond Good and Evil rock)

In short this is the moment that saves or kills, makes or breaks Splinter Cell, for me anyway. No pressure.

Oh, and I'm late for it, but perhaps a main thing I'd like to see are bigger, more believable levels. Way back there was talk about having just 2-5 big areas, like a segment of a city (Assassin's Creed/Arkham City style), a cruiser ship (bit like Double Agent) and an island (Dead Island/MGS3 style), in which there are Dead Rising style mission system (with or without time limit) and freedom to approach the situation. Sam (or whoever player character) has a wide variety of gadgets from grapples to wall drills to phone bugs at his disposal, there are lots of NPCs around and often multiple ways to complete a mission (if you don't succeed to eavesdrop a conversation you need to find the info by infiltrating an enemy base). Disguises too.

    Summary:
    1. Terrorists (or a small army) launch a wide-scale attack on U.S. and 3E (or whatever) gets tangled in. They manage to throw Sam (or whoever) out there to investigate (terrorists threaten with nukes or such so no one else can be sent in). Sam witnesses terrorists taking control of the area with civilians panicking, fighting back or hiding. Sam can infiltrate most any building through doors, windows, sewers, air vents etc. He can also try to use a disguise. He needs to find out what are the terrorists planning by eavesdropping conversations, tracking important people and generally finding clues. He can also try to help out the civilians where possible. Eventually he finds out it has something to do with a cruise ship that is to dock and leave.

    2. Sam (or whoever) makes his way onto the ship, where the common people have little idea of what's going on, partying and having fun. Sam needs to navigate the complex architecture of cabin sections, stores, restaurants and clubs seeking out more clues while trying to avoid attention. There are also a notable terrorist group inside the ship, some working in darkness while some are out there with the civilians. In the end Sam finds out that the ship is a setup for the group and on a nearby island there's a terrorist camp. Sam grabs a lifeboat and follows some of them.

    3. At the island Sam (or whoever) finds out the camp isn't just a small cave, but a sizable town with heavy protection, with some further away cabins. Sam must wander in the forest, avoiding wildlife and getting some nutrition. He can climb in trees, investigate the cabins and camp when possible, update 3E and take out the resistance unnoticed bit by bit while trying to learn the absolute goal of the terrorists. At the end Sam finds out there are a series of nukes on multiple cruisers and one on the cruiser back at the city, so Sam heads back there and manages to defuse it.

I think we're at polar opposites on this. I'm going to have to google Emo now, I see it a lot these days. I get the impression it means 'depressed greasy teen' but I think I had better check.
Bourne (identity specifically) was an upgrade to the genre, Ghost Protocol is good too.

Absolutely. I never could take ANY spy film seriously till Bourne came along....I was a bit apprehensive about it since I was a fan of the books (Ludlum is a beast of a writer....Sage, if you liked Conviction Sam, you will love J. Bourne in the books) and wasn't sure how it would translate onscreen....but boy was I wrong. Superb.

    Sorry....but No.

They are absolutely horrible plots/mission structure for an SC game. Might be OK for a Farcry game...but SC? Nope. The logical step would be to get back to the Information Warfare roots and ditch the cliche'd nonsense of SCC altogether.

I want Sam going back to infiltrating embassies and defence ministries for some data retrieval, planting bugs, hacking into servers, giving remote access to Grim...Cyber Warfare.

I want the original Data Thug to return.

At the same time....add variable speed, enemy AI that acts on aural detection, ability to hide bodies, more range in CQC, retweaked M&E, lone NPC interrogations to be added to the Conviction formula. Perfection achieved....I will take the Nobel now, thank you very much.

    @ Bourne Series
Just watched the trilogy the other day. 1st one is totally a classic and while the 2nd one is certainly good I think the 3rd one really pulled off a miracle. Really good moments in that one and it never goes too far yet doesn't feel like it repeats the other two. Haven't enjoyed a movie marathon that much in ages.
Never read the books though... I'll check the library next time I'm in.

The books are on an entirely different level.....it has a very frantic pace and narrative..you really feel the urgency that Bourne feels. But keep in mind that it is not very realistic...sorta dramatic...and is more of an emotional narrative..extremely fast faced and dynamic. Also..its set after the Vietnam war, old school espionage.
The character of Bourne in the books feels raw and very elemental....and very much like a instinctively cunning predator.
