Thread: Extension for RS Cable | Forums

  1. #1
Probably a silly question, but I am finding the included RS cable to be a little too short for my room setup. I am thinking I could purchase one of these http://www.guitarcenter.com/Li...00143405-i1168112.gc and have all the room I need. Anyone doing this already? Anyone feel this won't work?

    Thanks!

    I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I am using a 10" USB extension cable and haven't had any trouble.
Was looking into getting one of those myself (cheaper than USB cable).

I use the planet waves 1/4 inch coupler (search for it on Amazon), and plug an L-angled guitar cable into that, because I play sitting down and a straight guitar plug ends up getting jammed into the couch, which is both awkward and probably not great for the real tone cable's longevity. I don't have any problems doing this with Rocksmith, even though they tell you not to put anything between the real tone cable and the guitar.

I just grabbed a double female coupler and joined another 5' cable to it, which was nice because the cable I I used has a 90 degree elbow joint so I can sit back and get settled in for the long haul on my couch

Thanks everyone! I think I'll purchase and give it a shot. Fairly cheap test, I suppose. I'll report back when done.

Slightly cheaper solution, but at the other end of the cable.

Monoprice ... should have thought about them - I LOVE that place. I actually dropped by Guitar Center and snagged a Female/Female barrel adapter and used a spare cable that I had at the house to extend. A little more expensive that the Monoprice USB extension, but not by much.

    Worked like a champ!

i have my guitar plugged into a digitech rp-70 ( http://www.digitech.com/en-US/products/rp70 ) then from that to my xbox. i set it to bypass mode and when the game wants me to re-tune i tune my guitar using the pedal then set it back to bypass mode. works great

I tried an 10' male/female instrument cable which seemd to work fine. I sit a little closer on an armless chair now for lots of reasons and don't use the extension now fearing delay issues as per ubi's recommendations but again, it seemed to work fine. Regardless regarding electric guitars... shorter cables are always better are they not?

I've order an extension 1/4" male-to-female extension, not due to any shortage in length, but because I'm worried that I'll eventually kill my RS cable at the guitar jack end. When I'm sitting on the couch, I have to sit carefully so the cord doesn't take any pressure and kink itself - doing this for too long would surely cause bend relief issues in the cable eventually.
So I ordered an extension cable that has a right-angled connector.

I was hoping (not expecting/demanding or anything) the RS cable would have a right-angled connector for this reason. Most of us are going to be playing on a couch or lazyboy or the like, and there's going to be a lot of damaged cables out there due to this, I imagine.
