Thread: Laptop issue: recommendations | Forums

Black screen can be fixed by updating to the latest Nvidia graphics driver.

Only fix i have found for crash on startup is by starting the game in windowed mode instead.

    Documents/Might & Magic Heroes VI/User/ProfileData.

Open ProfileData with Notepad++ and change

    <gfx_Fullscreen2>Fullscreen</gfx_Fullscreen2>

    to

    <gfx_Fullscreen2>Windowed</gfx_Fullscreen2>

The annoying problems i am experiencing at the moment is the blinking mouse pointer and that i have to set it to windowed mode everytime i run the game.

I hope the devs will find solutions to these problems and release a patch soon.

    PC: Asus A53SV
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit)
    CPU: intel Core i7-2630QM, 2.0GHZ (2.9GHZ turbo)
    RAM: 4GB.
    GPU: Geforce GT 540M 2GB.

Sadly, the registry entry mentioned in these forums does not solve the blank black screen with gauntlet cursor I'm getting when trying to run the game.

I'm err.. "playing" on a Lenovo laptop equipped with Windows 7 (x64) and a Nvidia Quadro 2000M graphics card (driver version: "verde 280.26", the latest available, date 2011.08.09). Switching to Intel integrated graphics chip exhibits the same behavior. I have no issues whatsoever running any other game. I had this issue since beta. I have followed the recommended procedure introduced in this thread.

So yeah... good luck with fixing this issue, it's somewhat game breaking

Update your game to the 1.1.1 version.

I'm pretty confident my game is up-to-date. Steam doesn't download anything (I also verified integrity of game cache) and the game launcher detects no updates to download.

    EDIT !!!

I just ran the "gu.exe" in the game's folder (auto-update thingy). It detected an update and downloaded it. It was referring to "Heroes VI public closed beta" (which I have uninstalled). It said the update could not run because Heroes VI was not installed (non-sense), then closed. I ran the game from steam, and it works. However convoluted it is, at least it worked

For anyone that took my tip above and did the regedit, someone later posted that this temporary fix (which disables a Windows test for graphics card timeouts) should not be left in place indefinitely.

I removed the registry change (by deleting that line only) and can confirm that version 1.1.1 is running fine on my machine without it (NVS 4200M gfx card).

Just wanted to pass this on.

Happy Heroing. This is a great game IMHO.

Patch 1.1.1 doesn't seem to work for me with GTX 555m.

I still can't run this game. I've uninstalled Heroes VI and Ubisoft game launcher, deleted the files in My documents(beta was already deleted), and I still get a black screen with a (heroes VI) cursor. I got the game to run with some arcane gu.exe which I understood nothing of, but now I'm completely stuck.

Hi, I used this fix and my game is working great now! Just wondering - why can't it be left in place indefinitely? Will it do something horrible to my laptop? I don't think the game will work if I delete it so I am reluctant to do so
