Thread: Hunting in vain? | Forums

Hi i have just begun playing Grey wolves out of second flottila from weddingen.

I am now at sea (15th september 1939) And all i have managed to do is sunk a fishing boat with the deck gun. Usually i am on my way home with emptied tubes and 6-8 sunk ships on my score.

Now i have had a long SH3 break and i wanna be updated.

Give me some links to tips and strategies when searching for ships, or just tell me of the good hunting grounds. Also i would like to learn of weak spots on ships.

Btw i have just spotted a large convoy and the weather is lousy with thick fog and rough seas, any point to attack now that torpedo damage has been so drastically changed.

Also som intelligence raport on where i can hunt capital ships would be nice. Can i find them in convoys or around certain areas?

Any answer or hints on theese issues will be
greatly appreciated and help the war effort...

Sounds to me like you need a little paitence. I don't remember coming back with 8 ships and empty tubes in 1939 before or after the patch. The map you get when you buy SH3 shows the common trade routes of convoys, try those. Also, you can usually find capitol ships in docks or harbors but certain ships, like the King George or Revenge class BB's can only be found on certain dates in the game. Someone made a list of this awhile ago. You may also occasionally run into task forces when in game, but in my 1939-1945 career I only found 1 and it was moving away from me.

I haven't played the GW's mod yet so cannot say how this has changed game play. I guess the best advice is to look around in harbors and steer away from your patrol path, they are rarely very good.

Check out a Hunting Grounds section of the community manual, see the link in my sig. At the bottom I made up a more readable list of dates posted by someone else.. enjoy!

Thanks for the tip, i didnt now of the player manual.

Coming back with empty tubes and 6-8 ships were in stock SH3.

Btw i attacked the convoy and sunk 3 ships, they were atleast going to sink. But i was forced to withdraw due to heavy sink bombardment from the two destoyers. when i finally got away it seemed as if the game didnt register my sinkings due to the new prolonged sinking times, is it a fact that you have to wait around until "she is going down" is stated? Because this can be a real problem if thats the case, especially later in the war
