Thread: Conviction {Spoilers} | Forums

Ok I just wanted to point out to everyone that seems to hate conviction with a passion that this game was going to come out whether they wanted it to or not and actually is part of a crucial part of Sam’s story.

First off I just want everyone to step in Sam’s shoes for a minute. Your working for 3E undercover for years then stuff starts to happen. Your friend for years and boss Lambert goes behind your back and tells you your daughter is dead killed by someone running her over. Now that you have nothing to lose you are sent into deep undercover operation and gladly agree because why not? If you die you join your daughter and if you don’t die you get answers on who did it.

Second in conviction you have killed off your friend Lambert. 3E dies with him and tom reed takes over who now is going to kill the president and become the president. You are forced back into the game when you don’t want to be because it’s not your problem anymore so you’re angry that you have to go back into the game and deal with Grim’s problem. Then you find out that your daughter is still alive and the friend you killed was hiding her from you because there was a mole in the 3E and it was tom reed. So now your even more ****ed because the one friend you had you killed off for the wrong reasons and grim knew about it all along.
Now with these basic events outlined because I’m not going to just post the whole story here for people who haven’t played all of the splinter cells. I can see exactly how this game was made exactly how it should have been. Sam is no more the calm person who is always using his ‘blood jokes’ type of humor because he is madder than a swarm of bees. He doesn’t care about stealth anymore he cares only about getting the job done as fast as he can and get back to his daughter. Also because the whole entire mission is time sensitive as three EMP’s are going off and Sam has to stop them before it happens and they kill off the president.

Now that the story line is outlined lets look at some basic game points.
    1. Fast paced gameplay
    2. Brutal takedowns
    3. More gunfights
    4. Some stealth required
    5. Less relying on gadgets

Now lets look at Sams ****ed level (before he knew sarah was alive)
    1. Your daughter is dead
    2. You killed your friend lambert
    3. Forced into a situation you don’t want
    4. Being hunted down by the same people you used to work for

Honestly with Sarah dying it changed sam into something he always fought to fight secretly. It’s a perfect example in the very beginning of Conviction where his daughter is a little girl and he protects her and hates that she had to see what he did. Now if I were in sam’s shoes I probably would have done the same thing. I believe Sarah was the key to all this conflict and what you all call a bad game when its not. It’s just the next step to a conflict that was kept under wraps and sam found out when it was supposed to be kept quiet. Now that Sarah is alive and well he may go back to being the stealth guy you all know from the first one. But stop bashing a game that clearly is the direction sam was headed long before conviction came out. Im sure I will get bashed at for this but honestly if you were a ****ed off operative that was betrayed by the same people you worked for that you thought was the good guys are you really going to stealth around or are you just going to kill them and be done with it? I for one would choose option two.
Last but not least I understand that they did leave out some things that were splinter cell awesomeness but that does not mean this game should just be scrapped or was so horrible you won’t play it. Honestly they only left out a couple things like the knife and night vision and a few gadgets. But if you look at the game how is he going to get a hold of things like that? He does not work for 3E anymore and the stuff he gets he gets off of the soldiers or Vic realistically. You all say all the guns should be silenced but what private military company carries around silencers for deagles or Ak’s in their packs? I understand that you want more silenced guns in the game and I somewhat agree but I’m content with just the ones we have now. Eventually they will have more but people are so impatient about things. Give it time really and just enjoy the game for what it really is.

So what's Archer & Kestrel's excuse for being the same mindless killing machines as Sam? Did their pet goldfish die?

That I have no honest to god answer for. I kind of think they did a poor job on the storyline but its still fun to run around with a buddy and dual execute people in cool ways. I actualy thought they should have stuck to the DA co-op type gameplay for the co-op storyline but the DA co-op didnt really give the operatives a story they just did missions so they did something things right with A&K but they could have done better or took a little more time to develop the story. still its a fun co-op to me having that buddy and busting into a room and killng all the guys in the room within seconds.

Instead of sneaking past them, like Splinter Cell operatives are supposed to...?

Conviction is ACTION with stealth and like ERS_xXhunterXx said, it's lots of fun.

Right, I think thats what everyone gets confused about with this game. There is stealth in the game and their is action in the game. If you want to be that stealth guy who runs around sneaking around jumping on people and shooting lights its their for you. But if you just want to run around guns blazing its their for you too and if you do that they make it a little harder for you by making more enemies appear. Its two worlds combined into one and some people I believe dont get that you can do both.

You may find it appealing and I never said otherwise Jazz.

I just pointed out what Splinter Cell operatives are supposed to do.

I do. Beland thinks it's sexy gameplay, and the whole "Sarah's death" excuse for Sam's behavior is inconsistent at best.
