Thread: Arres, any plans for beta testing farcry2 by the public? | Forums

  1. #1
I guess this would be a question for Arres.

Any plans in the foreseeable future of putting the beta of Far Cry 2 out for public beta testing or is all the beta testing going to be in house?

On the same note, myself and probably everyone else that visits this forum would be willing volunteers. I know that it would be hard to pick just a few names out of everyone who would want to, but this might be a great idea for a future contest when the time is right. Pick 10-15 winning canidates with varying system specs, and give them the opportunity to beta test. You guys get your game tested in the 'real world', and some lucky individuals get a taste of the finished product. Anyways just food for thought. Thanks ....

Doing a restricted public beta test would be a disaster, much like it was for c****s, which just left the community (including myself) feeling angry, and eventually not buying the game

The problem with the Crysis beta was the fact that the public beta testers where a mix of:

:: Those that play it to find bugs and give useful feedback to the developer (small minority).
:: Those that just want to play it first for bragging rights and provide no feedback
:: Whining bar-stewards who have claimed they meet min spec requirements when they dont...and then complain about performance. (a waste of a key!)
:: Those that wanted in on the beta to create hacks

If there should be a beta program for FarCry 2, it would be nice if wannabe beta testers have to meet a min spec before being allowed into the beta testing program:

    For Example
If a minimum system spec is required for a beta, wannabe beta testers should have to download a program that tests their system spec to confirm/deny they meet the min spec.

If they meet min spec they are given an authorisation code that is used to permit them to sign up to the beta program.
The best defence against software piracy is producing a game worth buying.

They should just release a mp/sp demo about a month or two before gold and just watch the forums fill up with complaints... there you go official beta test.

If there should be a beta or a demo, it should be featuring Multiplayer.

Because if it's Single Player, it's like playing the entire game for free and if there's a timer to prevent players take a peek of every piece of pixel, can easily bypass that with hacks. And if there are boundaries, can easily bypass that glitches.
