it sometimes says that this host or whatever is using content that I do not have and to go download it but I don't know what to download or where to get it.

Not sure, I figured it downloaded them autpmatically since it checks for updates everytime I start it

It will automatically do the updates, but I don't think it does the map pack. If you don't have it, you won't be able to join servers running those maps.
Check your maps and see if you have any with the name Redux in them. If you do you have the map pack. If not, download it.
