From what I can tell so far, either you get the Euro collector's edition or you get a download version.

I sure hope this changes. Not have a regular retail DVD version would really suck. I have limited bandwith and, if everybody is downloading at once upon release, it'll be even worse. I'll probably have to put off downloading for a week or 2 in hopes of getting through

The worst part is, nobody but the Ubi store has COD for preorder. Is that likely to change, or is it always that way with IL2 products? I don't know because I've never owned an IL2 product. Offline AI woes sent me to MMOFS back in DOS-Air Warrior days and I stayed there through Warbirds and Aces High, until going satellite put me back offline. Since then I've been flying OFF.

Can't say the IL2 AI is good but the FM is supposed to be close to what CoD will have.

9 new copies of IL2:1946 on Amazon for $8 each. It has the whole series in one and hey, a 28k connect will let you online though IMO 48k is better.

Just to putt around offline and get a feel is worth more than the price. We've had some competition aero pilots (TX_EcoDragon, Iceman, it's been a while) comment very favorably on the depth of the FM especially since the 4.x change that used part of the new code (IL2 3D models don't have distributed mass). According to them just a few years ago there was nothing so good.

Just getting into how the trim works and affects the flying (haven't heard a thing about any changes to the trim system) may well be worth a lot if you're going to get into CoD.

Some nice surprises and the AI is not so bad as to be unplayable, just occasionally annoying.
