I haven't seen much on the forums about this forthcoming WW1 sim based on the IL2 engine which is surprising considering how impressive its looking.

Check out the latest development news here: www.gennadich.com

Personally I'm really looking forwards to this.

I have been following the work on SIMHQ where guys form the development team frequelty post.

    http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb....topic;f=144;t=001669

This is indeed a sim to look forward to, for me a much more eagerly awaited sim than Maddox' next generation.

They have changed course though, no longer IL2 engine.

I wonder why; and what they're using instead?

OTOH; I refuse to get worked up on release dates; they always lie.

Yes, this looks likea great production. Getting it without reservations.

    Me too

And in Old Testament tradition, there are weekly updates every Thursday as well.

I did not know they had abandoned using the IL2 engine.

The quality of the aircraft/object modelling looks outstanding. It will be very interesting to see what the game world looks like.

I have acquired a few books on WW1 aircraft in the hope that these kites will be skinnable too.

    from gennadich forum:

    Now we have 3 g-engines.

    1) Il2 engine (MG)
    2) DigitalNature (d-strick)
    3) Newtonika (GT) - working name

Not convenient to us to use IL2 of engine because it is written with jawa code. We do not want to work on jawa. + there is several ideas which we will not be able to realize on IL2 engine with its entire attractiveness. Therefore we wrote our engine with work name â«Newtonika.â» So we are now expected engine оf â«digitalNatureâ» from d â€"striÑÂt group.

Now we continue work on the base of â«Newtonikaâ». But we yet did not conduct the analysis of the code â«digitalNatureâ». Possible that we will use very large parts from it, or all engine. Now work continues only on â«Newtonikaâ».

I cannot say all to you now, since the part of the information is commercial secret. But I hope that before the presentation â«Newtonikaâ» to you these my explanations will be sufficient.

    more from an interview:

    LOFT,

If we are to understand you correctly then, do you mean you're not planning on using the IL-2 game engine for "Knights" anymore....not for anything in the new sim???
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes this is correct. This is the new solution. We accepted even it at the beginning of work. About the reasons for this solution I wrote before this. Best anything on IL2 of engine is obtained IL2 but it already is. We had additional time and calculated by the possible to use new possibilities and ideas and not to repeat old.

    quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you planning instead on using a different game engine than IL-2 for this WWI sim of yours, one you call "Newtonika", which GT has been developing itself?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Yes its correct.

    quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additionally, are you saying that you may include part of d-Strict's game engine into Newtonika as time goes on, but at the moment GT hasn't analysed the DigitalNature engine yet, so you're not sure what can be used from it? Therefore, GT is currently working only on its own game engine for "Knights" (Newtonika), but that some of the d-Strict code could end up in the final version of this sim's game engine afterall?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. We plan to analys d-sticct engine on first week of July. And i think we can use some parts of thise engine. But i can`t say anything right now. Only after analys.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Would you say these are correct interpretations of your posting LOFT?

Feel free to correct or add any additional information to clarify the situation for us please. Thanks again!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Aabsolute you correct.

Well we know that making a WWI sim on a pre-existing WW2 sim platform is a less than ideal situation, as it takes much "reverse-engineering" to build in some of the more WWI-like flight characteristics needed to make the flight modeling complete (such as sufficient gyroscopic precession and adverse yaw dynamics as a few examples), but perhaps this was not the problem with the idea of using the IL-2 engine afterall???
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You didnt get one thing - we will have our own, made from 0 to 100, Flight Model and dynamic engine made by our own programmers and flight dinamics engeeneer. (An.Petrovich - if you know him - he where workin over AFM in Eagle Dynamics).

Without revealing too much protected information about "Newtonika" (name chosen in reference to Issac Newton perhaps?), can you tell us if abandoning the IL-2 engine was related to FM issues, and related AI issues, or for other reasons (like being able to fully include those new ideas you mentioned above)?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

correct, and also we can bring much more physics futures into our game by using our own FM and game-core.

    quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Could you give us an idea if it was the difficulties that GT faced in getting the IL-2 engine to correctly work with basic WWI-like sim functions (FM/DM/AI issues), or was it because of these new features that GT planned/wanted to include in the new sim that required the development of a new game engine altogether?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

you know, we cant tell you about it cause alot of reasons, and some of them does not depend on us

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(sorry if I'm digging here a bit, but I think many of us are interesting in understanding further the "why" behind the decision to switch from a modified IL-2 engine plan, to the "Newtonika" plan....that's all)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The reason is..
that we will try to make it better, cause we know it by our own experience - what we whant from the aviasimulator.

Also of interest ÃÂ*s this for those of you who havent followed this sim:.. this was announced in May

Official announcement from GT and d-strict teams.

Dear customers. Our teams are happy to announce about collaboration over our project. As many of you know, that during last time both companies where concentrated over work at the same theme projects during 2006. It was "Sykorsky" project for d-strict team www.d-strict.com , and "Knights of the Sky" for GT team www.gennadich.com . Both projects are pointed for simulation of WWI theme. During long period of negotiations we have decided that we can reach much more results and success while working together. Our joint work can give us much more that before and unite all best things that yet have been done from both projects. Our customers will be able to get much more complicated and qualitative product, while our companies will collaborate together to act for simulation market with better success.

Our teams resources collaboration are planned for early of July 2006. GT team will be as tech base for project. Sykorsky team members will be transferred into GT team and all items done for Sykorsky are included into "Knights of the Sky" project. We sure about that, that we will use all those materials in right way to bring out maximum quality products into game development market.
