It's difficult to ask for help with this without it appearing as a critisism of GWX. It realy is not. I love the mod and appreciate all the work that has gone into it. However,
Having just read Martin Middlebrooks "Convoy" it seems to me that the absolute certainty of detection by the Anti Submarine convoy escorts and the devestating acuracy of their gunfire is unrealistic in GWX.
In other words if your boat meets the critera for detection as coded you will be detected. There is no random chance of not being detected. You surface, you are spotted, you die.
From what I have read there were may reasons why this would not be the case even on a clear night with good sea conditions:
1) Asdic/Radar not working or faulty (frequently the case).
2) Watchmen simply just not spotting the U-boat.
3) The ship being diverted to rescue work or other duties.
etc etc
Also, their gunfire was not always perfect. Guns broke or jammed. Men varied in their abilities. In GWX if you are spotted at under 1000m and a gun opens on you that's it, you've had it.
Middlebrook states cases where a surfaced U-boats get within 400m of an escort on the surface without detection. Also, the ships guns were not always used agianst a surfaced boat.
In fact most of the torpedo attacks seem to have been made on the surface.
I therefore think it was probably much easier to evade the escort screen without detection when attacking a convoy than it is in GWX where all the ships perform their duties with almost magical perfection, even at night.
My question is: Which files should I edit to tone down an escorts detection abilities/probability a bit? I can't seem to find the relevant file.
Thanks so much in anticipation.

I would say AI_sensors.dat is the one you are looking for.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Thanks,
AI_Sensors.dat is unfortunately a binary file and not editable by normal mortals.
Is there an editor program or mod available which could help me out?
