Thread: Sh3 on a laptop | Forums

  1. #1
Has anyone tried running Sh3 on a laptop with an ati mobility graphicard? I want to buy Sh3 but i had problems with an other game, that wasn't able to run with my mobility 9700.
The perfromance should be no problem, with a mobility 9700 and an amd64 3000+ cpu with 1gb ram.
So wahts with Sh3, are there any compatibility problems?

This probably won't help you much, but here's what I know so far.

I played a training mission on SH3 and it worked very well with my laptop. I haven't done any extensive playing because I usually use my desktop. However, a friend of mine is planning on coming over tonight (Friday) to LAN, so if that happens I'll try it then and post my impressions on it.

I'm actually more concerned because of the AC'97 sound problems I've been hearing about. I have had AC97 problems in the past with Battlefield 1942. (People sound like chipmunks.)

Here are my laptop specs to give you an idea of the machine I'll be playing it on (trying to post relevant info that may affect gameplay):

    Dell Inspiron 8600
    Pentium-M 1.8 GHz (Centrino)
    1024 MB RAM PC2700
    Radeon-M 9600XT 128 MB
    7200 RPM hard drive

cool, i hope it will run. I have a AC97 too, but with an VIA Motherboard so i can use the "via vinyl drivers" which are very good (maybe they work also with your card?! lol).

I think I can answer your question. I have an HP zd8000 with 2 gig of ram and an ATI x600 Graphics card with 256 ram.... The game rocks and I have not had ant trouble. Except... ( there is aleays an exception), that I am still not able to find the ready button to play multi player...

I have a laptop that does (barely) beat the minimum system requirements for SH3. The game does run, I've had to turn down the particle density to 0%, turn off all the extra options (extra detail) etc. The only problems I seem to still have is when in bridge mode, the framerates are still to low, I get a choppy screen, and also with the periscope view in zoomed out view its still choppy, although not as bad as in bridge mode. Is there anyway to further drop the graphics? For instance, the birds flying by in the air in the tutorial.. that causes more stutter, and has no effect on gameplay. Or what about shortening the range at which the waves are rendered? Or maybe an option to turn off the crew animations? (all that spinning around on the bridge must make em dizzy anyway ) I realize these aren't in the options at present.. maybe UBIsoft could look at patching them in? This would probably help alot of people who are struggling with minimum requirements.. not just me.

ok, so i'll go out and buy it today. I hope the shops here in germany have it.
@VonSchefphten: maybe you could set the graphic a bit lower, when you look in the cfg configuration files?!

    Hi,

Just wanted to report that I played a few single-player missions and it ran very smoothly. Ran very smoothly, even with hi-res textures and 100% particle density!

    Good hunting!
