Thread: RUSE Multitouch Not Enabled | Forums

I cant get it to work either on my Dell SX2210T.

With regards to the options file being rewritten after editing it :-
right click it and choose properties
click read only down the bottom and apply,
    that stops it being overwritten.
Im so annoyed, I preordered this game from PLAY.Com and got it on Tuesday 5 days after release (useful). I cant seem to get/find the preorder bonus challange maps, and to top it all I did actually buy a touchscreen monitor because of all the hype around RUSE and touchscreen, only to find it doesnt work, I feel let down at every stage of aqcuiring this game. The touch screen still behaves like a mouse pointer in the game but not like the gestures you see in the videos, more like a trackpad style gesture basically I can zoom and double tap thats it, none of this scrolling or panning or rotating, how can they showcase these features in this game which to me was selling those features only to exclude them. Surely that is misrepresenting the game, which I bought based on these features.
Maybe theres a problem with the multitouch and they are working on something, maybe they arent, hopefully someone will say one way or the other. For me I feel totally let down, this touchscreen style control was something exciting and intuitive but so far I havent had any joy with it at all either in Windows or Games. Sort it out Microsoft and Ubisoft please, otherwise stop talking about it like theres an exciting userinterface available because without the implimentation or software it just amounts to an onscreen touchpad.

Try to deny write access to the file!

Furthermore if you're really angry about it - play the game with UBI like they did with us (customers)... Far as i know, in a game wich got the "Games for Windows Live"-Logo it is not allowed for a Publisher / Developer to support more controlling units (such as Controllers) than the M$ ones.

If UBI is now going to support only HP Interfaces this is kind of an contract violation due to the Games for Windows Live agreement which UBI has signed for that game.

However, I'm not a lawyer but i would say that an Multitouchscreen is very well an controlling unit such as a controller is. And (!!) there is an microsoft multitouch controlling unit which is called surface. If they didn't support it and still using the Games for Windows Live logo i would say they are screwed.

Maybe no one at UBI has thought about this issue before they have signed the contract with HP.

So go on and ask Microsoft directly if this regulation done by Ubisoft is compatible with the Games for Windows Live agreement.

    best regards

to make the options.ini writeprotected hasn't changed anything.

Is there really a other ruse.exe for touchsmart in the stream folder ... haven't found any ...

the really mistake what ubisoft makes, is that they dont give a comment about whats going on.

do they work for a solution? is it an error? or always thought as a only hp touchsmart thing?

from hardware side: is it a difference between the components? don't do the windows 7 apis the trick? have they written their own code to connect to the multitouch hardware?

    Hello,

like i already posted in the german forum i requested a fix for this or this case will go to the consumer protection here in germany and to my lawyer due to false information and misleading commercials. There was never any indication that Multi Touch would be only for one certain monitor.

    Best Regards

Just go and fuc**** inform Microsoft regarding Games for Windows Live Logo and the fact that it doesn't work with a microsoft own controlling unit (Microsoft Surface)! Im sure this is against the external preconditions which RUSE has to fullfill in order to get the Games for Windows Live logo.

    [Edit]

Seems I'm not completely right about the preconditions. Ill find that as one of my first results while going deeper into this issue:

    S.5 Support Windows Touch
    Recommendation

Windows touch-capable games are playable using touch and/or gestures on computers running Windows 7 with a touch display. Keyboard input can be used as well, but the primary play interface must be touch-based.

Enabling touch should not prevent the use of the mouse or common controller, subject to Technical Requirement 1.4.

The game's installer is not expected to support Windows Touch functionality.

    Hello,

I just found the original Ruse-windows7-multitouch-News from the official Ruse Homepage:

    R.U.S.E. AND WINDOWS 7 MULTITOUCH

    25/10/2009 - general
Remember a few months ago when you first heard about R.U.S.E.? We chose to reveal the game with this trailer. And since then we gathered crowds at every major industry events with some tremendous multitouch tables to demo our innovative and intuitive interface, entirely built around the zoom capacity and the aggregation of information.

This was just the beginning as today R.U.S.E. makes another major technological breakthrough with what we feel is going to be the future of gaming. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that R.U.S.E. will be one of the very first games to fully exploit the new multitouch capabilities of Windows 7!

For the occasion, we would like to share a few words from John Parkes, Ubisoft EMEA Marketing Director: "Making images interactive is at the core of the video game industry, and over the last few years we have been striving to make this interactivity as intuitive and direct as possible. Today, thanks to Windows 7 and its full multitouch support, the barrier between the player and the image has been removed: they become one".
IMHO that clearly MEANS "Windows 7 Multitouch", as it is a part of the OS, not Multitouch on some special devices from one company....

The real situation now could not be more far away from "...FULLY exploit the new multitouch capabilities of Windows 7!"

    Hi there,

The multitouch feature of R.U.S.E. is still unsupported at this stage. As to make the multitouch experience as intuitive and responsive as possible, the game development team is currently working on fully implementing touch-enabled controls to the game, with the best combination of hardware and software.

More news coming soon so please continue to watch the forum.

Also, it is VERY disappointing that Ubisoft hyped the Multi-touch features as a huge selling point, only to not support those features.
