Thread: Radeon 4850 performance question | Forums

  1. #11
i run xp service pack 2
im not a big fan of vista
i run FC2 on very high and i dont want to run it below that
as ive stated my setup pumps out great frames in the jungles and all the areas you would expect it to slow down it performs extremely well
its just strange how sometimes in areas which are not system demanding, like indoors, the frames just drop.
    very strange
i will put in more ram and give feedback

The reason I asked is SHRP was telling you to bump up to 4gb ram.

XP Pro 32bit..for all practical purposes, doesn't access past 3gb ram.

i still have 2 free banks so can upgrade to 8bg when i change to vista
but lo and behold it has not helped with frames
i still get mid 20's when in pala and stuck on 28 in apr/ufll hq's
    or indoors in general

Don't go for an 64bit OS (doesnt matter if XP or Vista) since you will have problems with many games and other applications, which is a fact. Just check how many people complain here about punkbuster missing 64bit support...

    I run FC2 on:

    Vista
    Q6600 @ 2,4Ghz (Quad-Core CPU)
    GeForce 8800 Ultra
    4 GB RAM @ 800Mhz

Everything on maxed settings, 1440x900res, 4xAA Supersampled, DX10

I always have around 40 FPS
Even in extrem situations I never drop in FPS too much, gameplay is silky smooth, always

I have Vista Ultimate x64 and I've never had any serious problems with games. Antivirus software gave me some crashes to start with, but I switched and it's been a smooth ride since then. (For PunkBuster you need to download the PB Updater and use it in the Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 2\bin folders.) I honestly doubt(ed) it's the RAM. Campaign is much more stressing for the GPU than multiplayer (8x AA, 1920x1200, Ultra High in multiplayer = ~50-60 FPS. Same settings in Campaign = ~15-30 FPS). What driver / Catalyst version do you have? 8.12 is out and it's been awesome so far. Fixed the 3D-mode-upon-boot bug for 4870X2s and games run without any problems (unlike 8.11 which I never installed due to the bad comments).
