Thread: counter wont work right | Forums

OK--so Im so pissed off because Im suck getting my butt killed by Robert's crusaders. I pull out the short blade, I go into counter mode, and I do my best to stay locked on to targets that I have knocked down so that I can slice em up. here is Teh problem.

Why is it that the counter only works about 33% of the time? When am I suposed to hit 'X'? Is it when the enemy begins their attack, or when the sword is about to colide with me?

I am so frustrated beause I feel that I am controlling it correctally, however, I always get the damn 1-2 combo from the crusaders--even when I believe that I am countering correctally.

    UGH---WHY WONT THE COUNTER WORK?

What you must first do is while you're in fighting stance with a guard or guards and have targeted one, hold down the R1 trigger for Counter stance move (if you're on PS3. On 360 it's whatever the Dodge button is set as) and as soon as you see the guard swing at you, hit the attack or Square (on PS3) and you'll see the animation scene where he counters and attacks the enemy.

On PS3, if you press X while holding down the R1 Counter stance trigger button, Altair will jump back to dodge attacks.

It's all about timing as I'm sure you know. Basically you have to watch for the guard to swing first and then do the Counter attacks/kills. It took me a while to get the timing down myself but after many practices, in earlier missions if guards are aware of my actions (by me killing one of them), I don't run. I just fight since I mastered the moves ! LOL...

For me, it took me a while even though I thought I have "mastered" the moves because there were so many of Robert's goons and they're a little smarter than your normal village guards I discovered. So you have to change up your fighting strategy to confuse them a little.

But don't worry. You'll beat them.

    The counters work fine.
but you should try the –¡ instead of the X, since X is for dodge
or at least get a lot more practise. I've spent over 30+ (maybe 50+) hours on the game and I still miss them some times. but when i'm calm I always get them. when i'm stressed out I hit –¡ too early and recieve a combo beating.

just as a tip, don't always hold down block when you're fighting higher-level ppl, like Templars, bosses, or even high-ranking captains.

Just press it down each time your opponenet swings, that'll keep you from losing health

he never said he has a ps3, he obviously has a 360 cause he's saying he hit X which is the weilded hand button on the 360

but drewbyrd, you need to press X basically right after he starts swinging and right before your blades touch, and i find that it's usually easier to use the long blade(right arrow on the directional pad)apposed to using the short blade(left arrow on the directional pad{also used for throwing knives})
