Quick question: I'm experiencing some lag running PS3->HDMI->Receiver->HDMI->TV

I read that by using analog audio cables the lag will be almost gone... but I really don't want to sacrifice the digital audio source in movies and other games. Is that what you guys did? Do you play your Bluray movies using the analog now that you have Rocksmith?
There's good news for you, actually. If you have the PS3 component cables, you can connect both the HDMI and the component audio to your system at the same time.

As long as you have Multi-Out set to ON in your PS3's audio settings, your audio will be output through both your HDMI and component cables.

All you would have to do is switch between those inputs on your receiver. </div></BLOCKQUOTE> </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Yep, sorry, those are fine... Red and white RCAs, all you need.

360 users can also plug a component a/v cable and hdmi cable at the same time, although it's not quite as apparent or effortless as it is on the ps3. You have two options: You can either buy this adapter (http://www.amazon.com/Optical-Audio-...177605&sr=8-11), which also has an optical out. Or you can crack the plastic casing off the end of your existing component a/v cable, thus making room for the hdmi cable--the casing comes off easily and can be put back together just as easily. The one caveat to this setup is that if you turn off your tv and turn it back on, or switch video inputs while using your 360, then the console will reboot. If you're using a computer monitor you won't have the reboot issue.

    Thanks for this LP68CA,
One question please, if you know:
I dont have any kind of home theatre, just a PS3 and a decent samsung LCD TV. I'm trying to use the HDMI for video and the composit red and white for audio into the TV, to avoid the processing of signal. Beside the HDMI port 2, which I'm using for the PS3 there are audio L and R in, though it say's DVI IN (HDMI 2). The problem though, is that when I go into PS3 settings and choose composite cable from PS3 for audio, I get no sound. Any fix for this? Or do I have to get some powered speakers or a home theatre system?

I have a Samsung. Let me try to test this for you.

Okay, I was able to recreate your problem. I tried everything to fix it, with no luck. Basically, what is happening is that audio from your HDMI cable automatically overrides your RCA audio input. Here's a snippet from the Samsung support forums regarding the issue:

"What's likely happening is that there's a false audio signal from the HDMI connection that disables the analog connection. It won't pipe in two audio sources, so if it perceives the HDMI is sending audio, then it's not going to enable the analog inputs."

Even if you turn multi-output on under sound settings, any audio you hear will be coming from the HDMI cable, and not your analog cables. There is no fix.

This is a limitation of our TVs, and not the PS3. The only way to avoid it would be to use a lower quality video connection from the PS3 to your TV like component video, or S-video or worse, composite. Like me, I'm sure you don't want to do that.

Unless you can live with the HDMI audio delay, powered speakers are probably your best solution.

Thanks for looking into this for me. I will most likely purchase some speakers and a reciever soon to end the delay!

    Good post.

I have a Sony Bravia and was having a lots of problems hitting the notes on some of the more complex technique challenges. I turned off Cinemotion, noise reduction and black correction on the TV's settings and started hitting the notes really well. I use HDMI for video and run the component audio straight to a receiver.

Your Bravia doesn't have a game mode? Usually that's the best possible setting for reducing latency.

Bumping this because it seems some people have no clue where the lag in their system is coming from.

The input lag is negligible. Any other lag is coming from your end.

If your stereo is at fault, just how is Ubisoft supposed to patch that?!

LP...thank you for the great response to the lag issue. I now understand that it is my AV receiver that produces the lag effect and not the software...maybe Ubisoft can consider that more in the future. I plan to try all of the options you outlined and hope to have a lag-free system soon.
