I have an Intel 865PERL motherboard and have 4 DIMM's for memory. Obviously, it says to run the memory in pairs, and that is what I intended to do, but here's my dillemma:
I had two (2) 256mb PC3200 memory modules already installed, and was going to add another two (2) 256mb modules for a total of 1gb of memory.
Well, Egghead messed up and sent me instead one (1) 512mb module. Well, I can stick it in my system, it works, but a little message came up the first time saying that your not in parity and that for th best performance you should run memory in pairs.
Well, my question is - obviously this is better in the longrun since I can just buy one more 512mb module down the road and not waste another 256mb module, but am I doing anything negative to my computer?
Am I severely negating the performance?
I don't think buying another 512mb module and going to 1.5GB total memory is really all that warranted right now, what do you all think?
If I can get them for the same price, wouldn't it be better to go with the one 512mb module for sake of future upgrade?
Any help or comments would be much appreciated!

well, you could just try it, stick it in and see if performance is better or worse, just remember to check how the sticks should be arranged in you M/B manual to achieve dual channel
