I read on this forum that most mods are no longer compatible w/ V1.4. Very sad! Is there any way of getting the 1.5V patch w/o the add-on? I would like all the cool mods w/o having to pay for 1.5. Never have I played a game that requires you to pay for a patch.

Well...It's an "upgrade" more than a patch. Look around the internet, I've seen copies for as little as $10 on eBay. Do a google search for "Silent Hunter v1.5", you'll come up with hundreds of hits. Whatever you end up paying for it, it's worth every dollar....
I got my Gold Edition copy of SHIV for $6.00 at Half Priced Books, but I'm in Texas so that may not be an option for you.
