Hitman has just hit my most anticipated game. Looks like what I want SC6 to look similar to! I like the amount of choice. Also like how they cater to hardcore fans by adding the mode where there is no HUD or instinct.
Has anyone played the Sniper Elite demo? I thought it was pretty interesting. I like the bullet physics on hard mode but I am terrible at it!
Just saw the new trailer and loved it....TBH I knew exactly what it would be about even before watching it....On the Hitman forums I had prophesized how Absolution would play out....I was right...much to the annoyance of a lot of naysayers over there.
It is EXACTLY what my dream stealth game would be like.
BTW I loved the surrender-deception mechanic it has.....I always lobbied for such a feature in stealth games and now can finally see it in action....it also shows that the AI has another layer to it. Instead of madly gunning you down it tries to capture you..adds a whole new gameplay level...a new way to get in tricky areas.
I played only demo version of the game and I didn't get it. May be it's a good action game about sniper and amazing X-ray kill camera. But there is no stealth.
The game has several good ideas, you can throw a rock, use trip mines, drag a body, search corpses, but these elements don't work properly or don't add anything useful for stealth experience. For example, you can crawl, it's cool for a sniper, it increases your precision, but you can't crawl through the first door, that's why it's useless for navigating a level, you can't crawl everywhere. You can't jump through a window without making a sound, that's why it's almost impossible to kill the first enemy without rising alarm. AI isn't good enough. For example. the first sniper begin to shoot me, but other enemies around him completely ignore me for some reason. Moreover, the game gives you different points for killing people. Well, it's a good idea, but if you kill somebody with bare hands it gives you IIRC only 15 points, almost nothing! I guess, you get more points if you kill somebody with your pistol or machine gun. Also your weapons don't have sound suppressors. But the game clearly forces you to kill all enemies with sniper rifle and precise head shots from great distance. Several thousand points for such kill! I thought that a proper sniper game should be about absolute stealth and killing one target (or even two) with one bullet. But it looks like Sniper Elite v2 demo isn't about it.
P.S: find this 'stealth' walkthrough of the second mission of the game on youtube. This walkthrough explains almost everything I said. By the way demo has few parts from this mission.

[Sorry if my English is not perfect!]
Sniper Elite does ONE thing right:
Getting the feel of a Killing Shot. The slow mo cam and the gory cut-aways are the best feature of this game and the Devs know it.
unfortunately it is not enough to deserve my money.
The core aspect of being a Sniper (as KenTWOu) mentioned has been ignored.
No tactical movement...simplistic crouching stances..non-existant FIELDCRAFT.
A sniper is sooo much more than just accurate shooting....I want:
1. Variable Stances affecting my accuracy. Sitting down, braced against cover, prone, variation of all the stances which offer a balance between maneuverability and accuracy...so if I shoot in the cross-legged position I can acquire targets more easily but my accuracy is affected
2. Camouflage and Concealment: Sorely missing in this game. I'd like an MGS3/MGS4 like ability to blend into rubble and the surroundings (more on this later)..,..my background affects my visibility. hiding cleverly is super imp. IMO
3. Sniper Hides and Shooting positions: Snipers don't just post themselves on obvious perches and windows and then poke their rifle out to shoot....NO! they carefully select their perches.....sit deep back into a room, away from the sunlight, in the darkness.
I want to shoot from little gaps in the crumbling brick wall.....a small gap in the window....a tiny space between two iron bars.
This ties in with the above two points as the player will use different stances for different hiding positions and this in turn affects your visibility.
Now THAT ^ would've made an awesome sniper game
I really enjoyed Sniper Elite V2 Demo... the first couple of times.
After beating it on HARDEST I haven't touched it, or thought about ti again till just now.
Like KenTWOu and Shobhit said. Outside the scope the game is kinda pathetic...
looks kinda pretty though...
