Thread: Death of a fan. | Forums

  1. #1
I used to be the biggest SC fan. I remember when SC1 came out, I got it for christmas that year along with an xbox from my brother. I LOVED it, and promptly got SCPT, and fell in love with the multiplayer aspect. My nights were fondly spent breaking necks and mowing down spies in the hospital, warehouse, the movie theatre, and vertigo, thinking how anything could top the gameplay of SvM. Then came SCCT, which I preordered and got 2-3 days earlier than the release date. I still play SCCT, and in fact, it's in my xbox360 as I type this. It's definately the best online game I have ever played, especially in a market that is filled with same-same first person shooters. I was excited about SCDA since I was going to be the first SC on the 360, but I came to find out it was a huge let down. They destroyed SvM.

Now it's the present, and if you would have told my old self that I would have lost all interest in the series I would have laughed in your face. But sadly, I have. From the looks of it there isn't going to be a SvM worth a crap in this game either, and that's the only thing that has kept me a fan for the so many years since SCPT arrived on shelves. Some of you hated it, but the people who made SC what it was back in the day were the people who couldn't get enough of SvM.

I have no plans of preordering this game, nor do I even plan on buying it. The best this game will get from me is a rental from Gamefly, which is really sad. The Ubi company itself is mostly to blame. After games upon games being released and never being patched correctly I've gotten tired of having them abandon their community once I pay for their game. SCCT still to this day has gamebreaking glitches in it (green lines around the spies in camo, the rail glitch, etc), and that is just unacceptable.

Then you have their way of never interacting with their community. Look at Gears Of War, wonder why they are so successful? Because they listen to their fans, they make the games FOR their fans, and they patch their games. If a diehard fan like myself can lose faith in a company that brought the best online experience I've known, then it will only be a short ammount of time before the rest of the world does so too, and Ubi will have no one to blame but themselves.

For those of you looking forward to this game I hope your expectations are met, but as for me and people like me the SC series died at it's peak with SCCT.

I too decided to rent this game from gamefly...I was actually going to pre order it but I came to my senses...especially after I saw the pre order bonus. We will just wait and see what they do with Splinter Cell: Conviction 2.

Can't say I disagree [especially regarding ubisoft company protocol], but you'll probably get laughed at by the silly members of these forums who cannot accept people having a negative opinion.

This is the wrong place for mature discussions, my friend.

    *Slow clap...

I'm in the same boat. The sad thing is that only us, those who played from the beginning, and fell in love with that product, are the ones who are suffering the most. People will tell you to stop your crying and even go as far as to ridicule you, but these are the same people who enjoy the new SC that they are seeing. It's a whole new game, and these same people don't understand that we were all looking forward to Conviction, only to be let down after realizing what it has changed into. You can pretty much just change the name of the characters in the game, and give it a new title, and no would even recognize that it was originally a Splinter Cell game... that's how bad it is. It is no longer "Stealth Action Redefined", but rather, "Just Another 3rd Person Action Shooter".

You're not the only one who won't buy it. After I found out that the game's stealth elements aren't as complex as in the past I decided not to buy it. SvM is probably never coming back at least for consoles, UBI has said the multiplayer will done with the SP's mechanincs and I doubt SvM would ever work with spies carrying shotguns and crap. It's probably going to use the same deathmatch concept all shooters use.

That's true you may experience quite the backlash or the thread may even be closed. I guess we'll see what UBIsoft decides to do in the next couple months, but i'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt. And hope that they'll make a quality game with tremendous and innovative gameplay. Crossed fingers.

Pretty much my story too, except I thought CT's coop story mode was even more of a blast than Spies vs Mercs.

I know Adnocana, despite being newly registered I was a long time active member back in the hayday of SCCT. They're entitled to their opinion just as I am to mine, which is why I didn't bash anything about the game itself or the people who still support Ubi.

Looking at my registration date, you can tell I'm very disappointed. I'm still going to give it a day one purchase, judging from this moment in time, but we'll see how I feel about it when we finally hear about the multiplayer aspect. If it isn't SvM, it at least better be something new and innovative in the same sense that SvM was, and not just something along the lines of team deathmatch with AI civilians walking around.
