Thread: IL2-1946 Direct IP play problems | Forums

  1. #1
The problem is that when i enter my m8's ip address and the port so we can play co-op over the internet, i always get timeout error msg.
I always enter his ip like this xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:21000

It used to work. But now in xp we can only play co-op by using gamespy.

Now that i'm on vista and gamespy is not supported on vista, I'd like to get the ingame direct ip connecting working.

Firewalls are off, and I don't need any port forwarding cos i am not the host. The host is not on a router and his firewall is disabled.

It can be very frustrating to troubleshoot these connection problems, and Vista is probably only adding to the frustration.

Possibly, there is something you have not thought of, which is blocking your game from connecting over the Internet, even though you have disabled firewalls. E.g. antivirus programs, security software, etc.

Are you certain the host has got everything configured correctly?

Even though you are not hosting, it might not hurt to forward port 21000, and thus eliminate one possible thing.

Another idea, just to circumvent this issue, is to use Hyperlobby, if that will run on Vista, and connect that way.

Do you have a router? Perhaps your router changed your IPs and the 21000 port is going to a different one.. If that is the case there is a way to reserve IPs to specific PCs.

Some DSL modems have built in nat firewalls, so he may still need to port forward in his modem even if he has no router.

I had the same problem myself when I first got vista....HL works no probs on vista 64 anyways...I left on my firewall (stock with vista)...just made sure that Il2 was added as an exception and made sure that the properties were adjusted.......and believe it or not I used to have probs in xp and would put the ip addy of where I was trying to connect to into "trusted sites" in the "security tab" "Tools" of internet explorer and don't ask me how or why it would work. here's a handy link with a ton of info just waiting for your browsing http://www.portforward.com/help.htm

    hope it helps....

    Thanks for the replies.

The host is on cable and his modem has no nat or anything. I have tried connecting on xp also and have forwarded all the ports that the game says i should (although when it worked i never had to forward anything)

I tried reinstalling the game and when I tried connecting i got an error that the host is using a different version of the game. So i updated to 4.08m and then when i tried again i get timeout message every time.
