You get offered new subs as you gain renown. You can accept them or not.
Its as lane says, usually after three good patrols you're usually offered a new command. I've been offered a new command in my latest career but turned it down. I have command of the USS Tambor right now and I intend to keep her for awhile.

I got assigned to the Shark the other night, how cool is that! Got sunk in about 15 days in the Luzon straight.
Do you have to "save up" that reknown to get access to upgrades? As in not use your reknown on personnel/upgrades from one patrol to the next in the hopes of receiving a boat upgrade down the line?Originally posted by lane2512:
