Thread: Help with IL2 1946 and Pacific fighters installation procedure | Forums

  1. #1
    Hi all,
I recently was given IL2 1946 by a friend. I already have pacific fighters standalone patch 4.0.4. I tried installing IL2 1946, then installing Pacific fighters via the "setuppffbaep.exe" then selecting my IL2 directory, but this doesn't seem to work. Can I have both IL2 1946 running with Pacific Fighters in a single game so I can select from all theaters and planes? If so, how do I go about doing it, I've been unable to get everything installed correctly.

    Thanks,
    Todd

"setupoffbaep.exe" does not riong a bell.

First off, forget Pacific Fighters. EVERYTHING in Pacific Fighters is contained in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946. Every map, plane and object is there.

To install 1946 under Windows XP, just run "a" or "a.exe" on the DVD. IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 is IL-2 FB merged edition version 4.07m out of the box. You can add patch 4.08m and 4.09b1m to complete to the latest version.

Great! Thanks for the help. I've run into a strange issue that I'm stuck on. I'm running a laptop on Vista with an external raid connected via an eSATA card. My dog was kind enough to trip over the cord for my external drive halfway through the install. Obviously the install failed, but now every time I run a.exe, it tries to uninstall the previous installation. It fails every time during the "Validating Install" phase. It goes to 3% hangs, then my CPU usage skyrockets to 100%. Its there a command line option I can give a.exe to force it to just do an install without the uninstall check?

    Thanks,
    Todd

Looks like you may need to get rid of the folder and then clean out the registry entries manually.

If once [the people] become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, judges and governors shall all become wolves. " - Thomas Jefferson

Make a restore point so you can revert easy.

Just do a Start - Run - type "regedit" in the edit field and click OK. This should run the registry editor.
in the left panel fin find "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, rightclick it and select "Delete"

Close the Registry Editor. (No Save or reboot neccessary).

Next time a.exe should install the game.

Is 4.09b1m still a beta mod? Is it ever going to be promoted? How much of the community uses it?

Almost no one online is using 4.09. If you install it you will not be able to join any servers.
    Install the 4.08 patches.

4.08m is played online. The 4.09m dedicated server, like the 4.09m final patch are not released yet.
Install 1946 (4.07m out the box)
    patch to 4.08m

make a copy of the main game folder to anywhere.
You can play 4.08m from there.
patch the original location to 4.09b1m.

Make sure you point Hyperlobby client to the 4.08m version.

    You can now play both.
4.08m from the copied location for online play
4.09b1m with the extra maps from the original location.

Should an online game require 4.09b1m you can point Hyperlobby Client to the 4.09b1m version by holding Shift+Ctrl while clicking "Connect" in HL client.

    Hi there,

I have purchased a IL2 1946. As I read above, it contains all the IL 2 adds on (forgotten battle,Ace extension pack and Pacific fighter).
MaxMhz also talked about a patch 4.08m to be able to play on the server... I can't find it anywhere on the IL2 website. Where can i download it ?

And a second thing, maybe less related. A few years ago, I played IL 2 and maybe forgotten Battles, then I got lost with all the add ons, updates, patches etc... at the end, I totally messed up and could not play anymore. I lost the cd, and today I found a copy of IL2 1946 at 7 euros in a shop. Nostalgic, I could not resist and bought it again.(that was for the little story)
I then realised I used to play IL2 it with a Joystick. But I don't have one at the moment. Is it still the same, or is there a way to pilot with a keyboard and mouse only (for control) ?

You can use the keyboard for main controls, but it's not very practical. A joystick with throttle and (twist) rudder is highly recommended. Check out Saitek evo or Aviator. I would stay away from Logitech sticks.

    Patches are available at Mission4Today.
They can also be downloaded from my filefront page
