Yeah, i picked up this faint sound on my hyrdophone off the west coast of ireland and was chasing it for about 2 hours in the most foggy overcast dark night. I kept tracking him with active sonar and was surprised to stll not have spotted him when the range read 500 meters. At around 200 meters i got a look of the stern of a nice juicy c2 cargo. First shot waited until 300m and fired, it bounced a bit but went off disableing the rudder and reducing his speed. I only had 3 torps left and i lost him in the fog again from backing off, i reaquire him and fire from about 330. All 3 hits and the sucker breaks in half and goes to the bottom with my last torpedo, best single hunt ive had so far

Y eah I had something similar yesterday.... that fog really is a pain in the *** sometimes... the map and sonar tolled me i was 300 away but still no report from WO so I went up and observed myself and all i found was a dark shadow 300 away that dissepered just as fast. adn the Sonar man was drunk or the storm really gaved him troubbel cuz I could get no useful reading from him. but after a few hours hunt i found it... or it bow to be precily... coming out of the fog hiting me midships (it was a small merchant) and damaged my hull so it went down to 25%.. the bugger went to the bottom after a TI struck it from my aft torpedo room

But the bugger forced me to go back to base for repairs...

Leason learned, in dence fog, forget about that target, aint worth it...

I got 5 preys in a 300m fog at night yesterday. The trick is: go to periscope depth and stop motors. Wait until you get a contact. DONâ´T MOVE. Study the route of the ship, keep in mind that merchants move in straight lines. Calculate where are they going to pass and wait for him there at 300m of the suposed route. Be patient and wait until visual contact at periscope depth with motors off.
