Captgeo - If your current PC will run SH4 then it's safe to assume it will run SH3
Alone, SH3 is alive and well, and continues to prosper thanks to efforts of the Modding Community. The game enjoys a huge following, even 3 years down the line from release.
It's also inexpensive to buy or download now too

IMHO SH3 is better than SHIV, so if you like SHIV, even SH3 is an older one, you would love it.
