My neighbor doesn't have internet access so I said I would do this for them. They recieved an error message after going to the islands section. They keep recieving it.

    It says:

    Client has experienced serious error
    Please report the info below
    Excpt type: access violation
    Call stack (14 levels)
    OXOO9158C2
    through
    OXOO4f8621

What can they do to fix it. The game ends whenever they recieve this error.

My congratulations to you! There's nothing like a good neighbor, and in these trying times they're few and far between.

Your neighbor should, in the order shown:

    1. Verify that their system meets at least the minimum requirements shown in Myst V: System Requirements and Posting Guidelines. Especially video-card-wise.

    2. If at least the minimum requirements are met, install the proper video driver for their video chipset and EoA. Note that this may not be the very latest driver version! See Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP.

    3. Take a look at Myst V: Main Branch & Stack Violation Error Fixes With Win XP, and do the appropriate steps under Stack Violation Error.

    4. Download and install the latest driver for their sound chipset. The latest driver should be available from your PC or motherboard manufacturer's website, or:
-- a. For Creative Sound Blaster products, start here.
-- b. For Turtle Beach products (Voyetra, etc.), start here.
-- c. For SiS chipsets, start here.
-- d. For AC'97, SoundMAX, etc., chipsets integrated on your motherboard, go to the motherboard or PC manufacturer's website for driver updates.

If they don't know which sound chipset they have, run Dxdiag and look under Device on the Sound or Sound1 tab. See Myst V: System Requirements and Posting Guidelines under POSTING GUIDELINES - To post a DxDiag report for a how-to on running DxDiag.

    5. Make the setting changes (video and otherwise) detailed in Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes.

    6. If none of the above help, re-install EoA from a clean boot, as detailed in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. Pay special attention to the steps under Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up With Win XP, as well as under Installing and Re-Installing EoA With Win XP, "In general, any or all of the following may be necessary to prevent EoA installation problems".

And if none of all that helps, post a DxDiag report in this topic so that we can take a look at their system and maybe make further recommendations. See Myst V: System Requirements and Posting Guidelines, under POSTING GUIDELINES, To post a DxDiag report for a how-to. Run all of the graphics and sound tests possible before saving the report to a file, and post *all* of the file. If the manufacturer and exact model number of their PC aren't shown under 'System Information' (System Manufacturer and System Model) at the top of the report, they should also be certain to include that information in the post.
