Thread: R6 Feedback Council objectives 2006 | Forums

  1. #1
I pm'ed our so called community manager for over a week ago concerning this and he never replied. Being a consumer I don't like to be ignored, I'm just going to post it here.

This is what Ubisoft asked us in the R6 Feedback Council. I won't post our answers because they are too long. From the start in January 06 to June 1st, this is all they asked us during that period.

Purpose? Giving something the PC community can constructivly talk about, instead of the old bashing and useless chitchat we do now...

    Focus #1 Game Modes:
Which ones did you like and why and if you have great ideas go for it.

As always, no i hated or liked this with no details that doesn't help.

    This is PC or Console

    Focus #2: Weapon Customization

What would you want to see if you could customize your gun?
How would the system work? Should it be limited? Free for all? Should you always be able to?

Idealy the system or mechanics would need to work for both a single player and a multiplayer game.

    Focus #3 Multiplayer:
Multiplayer Matrix = A list of features from your favorite MP games

    Focus #4 Quicksave:
What are your thoughts on a quicksave feature vs checkpoint saves?

What would your response be & what do you think of the outcome conserning the "R6 feedback council"?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Quicksaves are better than checkpoints. Checkpoints are too limiting.

I would like to see the usual mods, 4x ACOG/3-9X riflescope, Aimpoint 1.5x, hi-cap mags, silencers.

However, I think three more would be useful.

An AN/PEQ-2, which is both an infrared laser and "wide beam" flashlight, which can only be seen through NODs.

    A normal flashlight.

And a vertical foregrip. Improved initial platform stability, but less recoil control.

I also think there should be mod "Slots", AKA, barrel/mag (choose a silencer or hi-cap), optic (ACOG or Aimpoint), and auxilary (Flashlight, PEQ, or vert grip). So, essentially, you could have 3 accessories, one from each catagory. I would also like cosmetic furniture customization, such as sniper grips, alternate stocks, and muzzle breaks/flashhiders.

I don't expect any of these, as we're too close to release.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The problem with the Council for day one was two fold:

    1) Vegas was more than likely started in 2004, even before the atrocious Lockdown was released. I base this on the two-year development cycles most major publishers operate under.

Anything "The Council" suggested was never going to be put in Vegas at this late a stage in development.

    2) The intention of The Council may have been earnest, but I don't think Geiger really knew how little influence we would have given the already established fact(s) Vegas was pretty much complete by the time the council was formed.

    ....

I believe forming councils or feedback groups of specific, vocal fans of games who post on forums can be a invaluable tool to publishers and developers... IF publishers and developers are genuinely willing to listen to and take into consideration what those focus groups have to say. Otherwise, it is just a shallow PR tool that wastes everyone's time and bandwidth...

Very true KFCIA. I've said it before I really appreciate you're (the council) efforts on our behalf but by all appearances you guys were mostly used by Gieger and UBI as a move to placate an angry community with no intention to really use your input in any significant way. I liken this to the devs for Lockdown hearing all our wishlists and then adding helmets. If they used anything it was most likely very small and not significant.

At this point I'm just disgusted at our so-called community manager. CM is a mis nonomer it should be CN - Community Neglector.

I digress however. I do not see how any kind of community involvement at this point in any TC series is going to pay off. UBI has demonstrated their apathy to our input. They aren't going to change now.

the idea of the council was born to keep us quiet.. and hoping for a tailored game...
nothing more... no true intention of harvesting in close devs/customers ideas exchange ...
guillemnnt bros... once had the reputation of visionary, innovative and customer driven...
now they are just $$$$ driven, with theyr belly full of bacon and salmon (king of, that is... (see Look Dumb))

In all fairness there could be a Rainbow Six:5 (working title) in development that we don't know about. It would explain alot of unanswered questions. Its hard to tell what the minds of UBI are thinking anymore.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It is possible... But do you honestly believe it won't be anything more than a console port and console (mass consumption) game from the start?

It makes no sense (from my perspective) for UBI to invest in making R6 games of the past (the RSE ones) because while we can cite statistics about how there is a viable market for PC simulations... Those same statistics also show they are not as profitable (sell as many units) as more mainstream oriented arcade games and therefore, it is a financial risk for them to undertake in such a competitive environment that exists now compared to when the original RSE games were released.

LOMAC (Lock On Modern Air Combat) and Silent Hunter III sold relatively well... But I have a feeling those games were almost completely developed and paid for by the actual developer and UBI is just the publisher in this case... Which means UBI didn't have to put up much money (if any) and this meant there was little to no risk on their part if these games failed to sell a lot of units.

(If anyone has factual info. on the background of these two games and the relationship to UBISoft, please, post what you know because this is just speculation my part).

Also, I know from inside sources UBISoft is not getting out of the PC first person shooter market like a lot of conspiracy theorists claim.

However, this doesn't mean much when a port of a console FPS game counts toward this claim merely because you can play it on the PC, either.

I would be ecstatic if there was (is) an R6:5, that was being developed from the ground up for PC first before it went to the consoles like in the past... But I just do not believe this is financially viable for UBI to do any more and this is not who they want to create (or hire developers to create) these kinds of games for compared to just eight years ago with RSE.

As much I don't like this like the rest of you, I've come to accept UBISoft just is not interested in making or publishing simulation games for PC games anymore and will look elsewhere for these kinds of games because this is the only thing I can do at this point... And it is a lot more healthy to just move on instead of harboring all this resentment toward a company who won't care either way if we stay or go. It sounds harsh, but I don't know what else there is to say, IMO.

If this line of text is a direct quote, or clear paraphrase of what Ubisoft said to you guys:

Purpose? Giving something the PC community can constructivly talk about, instead of the old bashing and useless chitchat we do now...
That pretty much says it all -- and rather clearly; the objective was not to get feedback, not open any kind of Fan/Developer dialog, and definitely not to get Ubisoft to look deeper in to Fan concerns or evaluate any consensus of Fan game design preference.

It looks pretty clear that all they were looking to do with 'The Counsel' was implement another canned marketing ploy to divert attention...
