First, I love the skin community. Sometimes, I get as much enjoyment from seeing the skins as I do flying FB! Anyway, when I apply skins in mission builder, QMB, campaigns, the skins don't look crisp but rather fuzzy on the aircraft. Resolution is set to 1024x768x32. Object detail "excellent". Any help is appreciated.

    Much thanks, Slowflite

Which specific aircraft are you talking about?

I ask because I have the impression that especially the skins on AI aircraft show up fuzzy. It seems the skins, if they arenâ´t already 512 x 512px, get "reduced" to this resolution to save processor time. That would definitely account for skin fuzziness.

Another reason could be the sheer size of the aircraft youâ´re skinning. The TB-3, for example, is a big bird. Since itâ´s flyable, it's most probably a 1024 x 1024 skin. However, as the skin has to be stretched over a much bigger fuselage than, for example, a P-39, I can imagine that the end result looks fuzzy the way highly detailed skins end up looking when applied to large aircraft.

The opposite seems to be true as well. Iâ´m thinking of the I-16 in particular. Iâ´m assuming a plane the size of the I-16 would have adequate "sharpness" with a 512x512 skin, as the skin could probably be applied DIRECTLY without the need for resizing.

However, since itâ´s much nicer to work on a 1024 x 1024 skin (you can get much more detailed), it seems these details get lost (fuzzy) because the aircraft itself is so small that the skin file gets reduced to be able to fit it.

Now, imagine the actual plane being, for example, 400 pixels long in the game. The skin file however, features a fuselage side thatâ´s 500 pixels. That would mean that a panel line thatâ´s 2 pixels wide in the skin file ends up being 4/5 of 2 pixels wide when applied to the plane.

Thatâ´s my theory on why skins tend to look fuzzy on large and small, as well as on AI aircraft.

If anyone knows the right answer (Iâ´m only using the three brain cells I have left here) please correct me... Otherwise it seems like a pretty good "theory"...

    Greybeast,

Thanks for the help. Primarily 109 and La-5 and La-7 skins. The fuselage serial numbers and markings and the wing markings all look fuzzy on the skins. I've checked and re-checked with IL2 Skins Manager V.4 to see if I've overlooked something but can't seem to find it. I just want the aircraft to look as crisp as the AI aircraft. Thanks again.

    Much thanks, Slowflite
