RUSE Crash when attempting to start | Forums

Yesterday I bought the game from gamer's gate downloaded it using steam and when i push play I receive a crash note. its says access violation and some other blah blah crap. See the attached screen shot.

What are your full PC specs ? If you are having Windows 7 or Vista OS, then first try playing the game under 'Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode', and see if this helps you or not ? Make a Shortcut of the Game's executable file i.e RUSE.exe, and then run it under Compatibility mode.....

If using Windows 7 OS, then you can also first try the 'Windows VISTA SP2 compatibility' Mode, but also try the Windows XP option.

Edit: Changing "Compatibility Mode" to Vista SP2 seems to have solved it. Amazing. Never had before but it works for now.

Maybe a curious coinsidence but precisely since yesterday I get an identically looking crash report right away when trying to play the game. When starting again i get a screen that asks to load the "last working configuration" but that makes no difference. Uninstalling and reinstallin the game made no difference, so what configuration might there be? I was playing the game just fine an hour earlier and there was no crash on exit. No configuration changes either, except maybe a steam update window that flashed by for a second but that was probably not related to this game.

At complete loss at the moment. I'm starting to suspect a Steam related problem. Reinstalling Steam made no difference either however. Other games run fine.

Hey thanks for the reply guys... I changed it to run under vista SP2 and it worked also i had to change a file under Windows System 32 to be able to log in. I think this is a problem the company should address since most of the gamers are using windows 7 64bit

Hi, thanks for the Reply. It's good that the 'Vista SP2' Mode works, but can you tell me which FILE did you need to change under the SYSTEM 32 folder, to make the Game work ?

It may have to do something with this Windows 7 system file, but I need to know the name of this file. Can you provide more details ? Btw, are you the sole ADMIN under Windows 7 OS, or you changed some privilege Level to make this Game run ?

Same problem for me. I change the compatibility mode to vista sp2 and it worked.

Hey, I have been having the same problems, but I dont know how to change the compatablity. Theres somply now option for it when I r-click it

i too cannot find the compatibility option in the tabs after right clicking on ruse nd going into the properties.
