This was posted in another thread but I thought I would give it a new thread.

This was posted by kenvoss -

"... some kindly soul over at the subsim.com SH5 forum has put together this Quick Guide to the game:"

Click here to check it out.

This should be a big help in getting you into the game.

The web site subsim has additional information about SH5.

A main list of Silent Hunter topics is in the Subsim Radio Room

If you are interested in Mods they have a topic called SH5 Mod Guide for Beginners

Another place is SH5 Mods Workshop

Another web site that has SH5 information is

    Silent Hunter Mods Forum

They have a section titled Silent Hunter 5 Mods

also a topic called Venatore's SHV Mod Bunker

    Happy hunting!

I've stickied this thread in hopes of providing new SH5 skippers some basic tips/hints/help with the game. Thanks to Yooperbacker for making note of it.

I will leave it open at the moment and ask that this thread stay on topic and avoid any personal commentary, wether positive or negative, about the game.

If you are having difficulties with the game please do not post your problem(s) here. Start a new thread either in this forum or the technical forum.

Let's all attempt to help the new guys with pertinent info to get their game off the ground.

    Examples of a good tip:

    1. To resize the TAI map use the Tab Key.
    2. To take a screenshot use Ctrl F11.

If you opt to not have your game/missions saved online (you are saving them to your local hard drive) then you should periodically clean out your Game Launcher Storage folders. Normally located at ---- C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\storage. Reason: It could take up quite a bit of disk space over time.

As I have only the one game that utilizes the Game Launcher I only have two folders there. One being a "temp" folder and the other being what looks to be a randomly named folder (example: D2lsbhl2aW).

I do not save online and when I am done for the day I delete all files in those folders without consequence to gameplay.

    1. To turn the hydrophone when manning the station use the middle mouse button scroll left or right while hovering over the wheel or the dial.

    1. Torpedo speed directly impacts how far out you can lock-up your target. If you select a higher speed the target must be closer to lock.

    1. To get your torpedos to go where you want them to go without using the "connect the dots" method:

    A. Lock target
    B. Unlock target
    C. Turn on TDC
    D. Lock Target
    E. ID the ship if you want
    F. Turn TDC off
    G. Unlock target
    H. Put your crosshair where you want it on the ship and shoot torps.

If you follow these steps you will get the hit.

Save your game when you are on the surface to avoid game crashes and saved game corruption that has been reported by some users.

For additional torpedoes fired at same target does this sequence have to be repeated? Thanks, Bill
