Thread: Frustrations of a relative newbie... | Forums

1. #1
Hi all,

I call myself a relative newbie because I've been playing for a couple months now, and let me say up front, you guys are great and have helped me through many questions. I have a couple problems, though, that I haven't seen from anyone else.

1) I just completed my second patrol of a new career out of Pearl (I quit my first career from Australia with the dreaded "cannot comply" problem). I got into Pearl, made my promotions, upgrades, etc. then went for my next mission, and got: Error: No primary objective found. I've gone back and reended my patrol 3 or 4 times arriving on different dates, but keep getting the same error (I actually had the same error in my first career and this worked). I am patched up to 1.5 and am running TMO 1.5.2. My system is an AMD Athalon 64X2 Dual Core processor at 2.30 GHz with 2G RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 video card. I am running Vista Home Premium.

2) This is more an annoyance than anything, but I haven't seen anything about it. I have loaded some of the radio mods, but have the problem that as time goes on, the news reports don't keep up. On my first patrol, for instance, I have the pre pearl harbor mod loaded, so I was out to sea on Dec 7, and for the entire patrol, all that ever played were the Dec 7 news reports over and over again!

Any help the community can offer would be greatly appreciated, and again, thanks for all your help up to this point too!

Welcome to the forum Icalibr8!

The "dreaded "cannot comply" problem" is generally not a game problem, but rather a game operator problem. It usually occurs when you leave your men at battle stations too long and they get exhausted. Stand down from battle stations ,give the crew some rest and they will then "comply"

The "No primary objective found" is most likely a MOD conflict problem. You mention TMO and pre-Pearl Harbor MODs. Could you list all of the MODs your are using and the order in which you enabled them?

Your system is on the "light side", but should be able to run the game fairly well. I see you use Vista. The gu.exe bug affects Vista more than XP. Click on the gu.exe bug link in my sig for more information on that.

The radio problem is also most likely the result of a MOD conflict. That pre Pearl Harbor attack MOD is probably the culprit.

Hi Dave, and thanks for your welcome and quick response.

To answer your questions/comments in reverse order:

I had the radio problem in my first career in which I didn't have the pre Pearl mod loaded. Up to this point, I've just considered it a minor annoyance and would switch to a music station I set up or listen to the gramaphone, but it would be neat to hear the old radio and news programs.

I had read about the gu.exe bug earlier in the forum (like I said, you guys have already helped me a lot ). At that time I checked my shortcut to make sure it was pointing to sh4.exe, and checked again just to make sure, it is. As far as the system being a "on the 'light side'", it does run a little sluggish, especially when a lot is happening, but I make sure to turn off as many of the background programs as I'm comfortable doing, and that seems to help.

The mods I have loaded are, in loading order:
TMO 1.5.2
RSRDC_v371_patch8
TMO Stock Gramaphone
Gramaphone One
CBS Radio
KGMB Honolulu and add-on
TMO S boat engine pack
Stock and RFB Pre Pearl Harbor Career Start

Finally, I received the "Cannot Comply" at the start of a patrol. I could order just about anything and have it done, except try to move the boat. Any engine command was met with "Cannot Comply". I looked through the forum (more help ) and found that this could be caused by loading a pre patch file after patching. Since I had just patched up to 1.5, I decided just to quit and restart.

Again, thanks for all your help, and I hope you can help with this problem since I am stuck in Pearl right now, right on the brink of Midway (boy would I like to take out some of THOSE ships)!

To answer your questions/comments in reverse order:

You are missing a MOD. The RSRDC MOD itself. RSRDC_TMOv15_V371
Get it Linky

You need to use RSRDC patch 10 not patch 8
Get it Linky
You also need the RSRDC_AuxGB_Fix
Get it Linky

Disable all your MODs from the bottom up.

The new enable order should be:

TMO 152
TMO_sboat_engine_Patch
RSRDC_TMOv15_v371
RSRDC_v371_Patch 10
RSRDC_AuxGB_Fix
(TMO Stock Gramophone) You don't need this one, it's already in TMO
Gramophone One
CBS Radio
KGMB Honolulu and add-on
You can't use this one!(Stock and RFB Pre Pearl Harbor Career Start)

That's why you got the No primary objective found error. If it is important to you, I can tell you why it happened. It's kind of involved.

The radio:
I'll try to give you the short version. As far as the game is concerned, the date the radio uses is the date you left on patrol. Every time you load a save, the radio is informed of the date as being the patrol start date. If you left Pearl on December 8th and the save you load is January 31st, then you get all the news from December 8th up to January 31st again.
The fix:
Radio Station Manager from digitaltrucker addresses this problem. It can set the radio date to the date in a patrol when you are ready to play. Read about it Linky

Download it Linky

Thanks a bunch Dave, I did as you said, and the program is purring along just like a kitten, I even got sent to Midway in time for the battle! Unfortunately, I was assigned an area in which I didn't see a single Japanese ship or aircraft . Imagine my surprise, though, when I did end up in the middle of an American task force including a "Wasp class carrier" . Since the Wasp wasn't at Midway, and given my location, I'm guessing it was probably the Yorktown hightailin it to Point Luck. Frustrating to watch a carrier and half a dozen cruisers sailing by knowing you can't shoot...Oh well, better luck next time.

BTW, I've often wondered if you guys have anything else to do other than monitor forums. It seems you're always available to answer questions, and I know you've probably heard this before, but playing this game is more enjoyable with you and the entire community always available with answers and help. Keep up the good work, and thanks again for all your help.
