I have "Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition," which I purchased a few months ago, and downloaded the patches and updates. It worked fine (I have Vista.) But then I started getting a "failed to attach personality" error and I haven't been able to fix it. I even deleted the game and resinstalled it, but i get the same error.
I searched the internet and this forum in particular, and found nothing about fixing the problem. Is there I post I overlooked, or does anyone have a solution to suggest? Thanks!

No, you haven't overlooked anything...
The only thing I can think of is that perhaps you installed some new hardware or software (such as firewall/anti-virus software or registry cleaners) that could be causing the problem.
First, make sure you have the latest drivers for your machine. Also, try temporarily disabling anything you have running in the background (such as the aforementioned firewall/anti-virus or registry cleaning software). That might help you find out where the problem is.
Also, if you haven't done so already, please submit a ticket to Ubisoft Technical Support about this problem.

Well, the question is, which personality it can't attach.
Are you still abler to play against any of the computer personalities?
Are your player data and preferences still OK?
-
I can't attach any of the computer's persnailties. Mine is intact.

Well, are the cmp files still in
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition\Data\Personalities
folder?
-
Yes, they are in my "personalities" folder.

Rright-click and run the program as administrator. See if it works now.
-
I've right-clicked both the icon and the desktop of the open game, but no option involving "administrator" comes up. (I am an "adminstrator" on my own computer.)
-
You said you have Vista, right?
Go to
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition
and right-click on gu.exe
There is an option "Run as Administrator"
-
I tried right-clicking on gu.exe, and choose the "run as administrator" option, and I still have the same problem. I was able to find the .CMP files in the "Data/Personalities" -- besides seeing that the game retians my personal preferences -- which it is doing, is there another way to see if it saving my own personality file?
