Thread: So, STILL no squad commands? | Forums

  1. #1
I wrote about this once before, but now I'm even more worried.

Is this Ghost Recon game actually not going to allow me to issue commands to my squad during the campaign? This is sad. . . what happened? What attracted me to previous Ghost Recon games was their SQUAD-BASED elements--in other words, my ability to command my squad and approach a tactical situation the way I wanted to. Is Ghost Recon: Future Soldier really gonna ditch this? What gives?

If so, this will be the first Ghost Recon release I won't be interested in spending money on.

Maybe I misunderstood your concern, but you can send your squad to any place on a map in GRAW2. Just bring up your map. You can order cover fire, or take out a specific target.

Oh, no, I'm talking about Future Soldier, dude. From everything I've seen and read about this upcoming Ghost Recon game, I gather that I will NOT be able to command my squad. Instead, all my squadmates are just gonna be these script-following characters much like those seen in all those Call of Duty games, which I can't stand. Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six attracted and stood out to me because they were actually squad-based tactical shooters. . . but it looks like Future Soldier won't be. *sigh*

Oh, I have not heard that. Not that I really care, as I mainly just play online anyway.

No squad based gameplay is a major concern of mine as well....tactical, small unit combat with squad control and an emphasis on Stealth is what defines Ghost Recon. Removing the ability to direct your squads at your will could be highly detrimental to the game....it'll become more scripted and 'on the rails'....not a good thing for a tactical shooter like GRFS which should give the player the full tactical control and the choice to approach ANY combat situation in his/her preferred way..be it a quick ambush, a stealthy one-by-one takedown or a direct assault.

In the gameplay demo he was giving squad commands using voice control via Kinect. We'll have to see how much control you actually have, but at least it's better than the "no control whatsoever" that they announced last year.

After watching the demo and seeing how good the friendly AI appeared. I would be ok not giving the orders because the system seems to be putting the team in the best positions to take out targets. I would however love switching perspective to the different soldiers in the squad to change class and in essence pick a point of entry into a battle. I would be fine with that.

I can understand what you're saying but...it tends to kind of take away the whole "tactical shooter" thing now doesn't it?

I agree, Dan. GR:FS would no longer be a tactical squad-based shooter if a player is unable to command his or her squad. . .

And I'm grateful I'm not the only one who feels that way, shobhit.

MeanMF, actually, unless I'm mistaken, that stage demo wasn't single-player. Instead, it was four players participating in a co-op round. It's lookin' more and more like I won't be getting this Ghost Recon release.

I wouldn't be surprised that voice commands or waving to the Kinect will command your squad.
Most likely you give a simple command and your squad pull of some slow motion 30 second Matrix movie action sequence bullet-cam kinda thing taking out 10 guys in a sweep.
Just like in the trailer from E3 2011.
