When the beta comes out (in April, for the Xbox and the PS3, no word yet on PC), you can get access by opening the game, going to the Extra-menu. There should be a new entry there (or maybe in the submenu "Exclusive Content"). I'm not sure you will get an e-mail (I actually don't think so), and you will have to wait till the beta actually comes out.
Will the beta be open to the public ever?
Currently when you go to the "lobby" on the game. There is the scrolling message that says "blah blah register for MP online by pressing X on your controller now." MP will be available April 19.
