I've been shadowing a merchant for about 2 days now. Because I use manual targeting I can't get a decent shot in until the storm blows over. Does this mean it might never pass? In which case, I've been wasting my time.

if you get squarely behind him, 800m or so, and use a steam powered on fast mode you should be able to do it entirely from the map screen using the gague. Your clock might be off if you get his range wrong, but since you're both moving strait it should blow off his props. Besides i think a real sub commander in your position would say screw it and guess, no calculations. Besides I had a auto-calc torpedo miss a stationary target in calm seas, so next time I went to the map and manualy adjusted the bearing.

Now you're changing the weather so u can get day after day of clear weather so u can 'fire your deck gun'....<sigh>
Different horses, different courses. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
A better option would be to moddify the sub's cfg to allow for deck/flak gun use in mild weather. I did this [13,0,9] I think and it still cuts the useage off in heavy seas. Imo a good compromise as Atlantic weather is typicaly not calm at all.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a go. I need to be quick though as a DD has just appeared on the horizon. Theres always something to thwart my heroic career![]()
Danurve, I prefer the sound of that mod and will try it out. Just a little bit more weather tolerance would be nice.
Dude that's not the point. I have never been a cheater. I've been playing SH since SH1 and the amount of bad weather in vanilla SH3 is just beyond. I DO know that weather in north Atlantic was not the greatest of them all, even in summer. But that's not limited only to north Atlantic! It's a freaking plague!
Now, you're not gonna tell me that you get 1 month of relentless storm in the Mediterranean Sea in the middle of summer every, EVERY FREAKING TIME, are you? I DO NOT want to use deck gun when waves are washing away everything. I DO NOT want to cheat. I just want to have a clear sight of what I'm aiming at for MORE than 2-3 days PER 1 FREAKING MONTH OF PATROL. Hell's tits, MOST of the times I see the ship when closer than the torpedo's arming distance (~ 400m.)! That's NOT real.
I'm sick and tired of the endless storm for 90% of my patrol time! That's every, EVERY time. F*&^ that, there was no such thing recorded not only in WW2, but in human history all along!
